BURT
dump valves make a hiising noise as you said but blow-off vavles dfo make more of a chirping sound... if you are gonna get one fella, best to get a HKS SSQV.. ya dont wanna sound like an rs turbo everytime ya change gear...lol
dark stranger
so does that eliminate the hissing noise....and does it replace the dump valve??
tbourner
Dump valves are BOVs, just different names. I'm guessing you're talking about turbo chatter when you say the chirping noise - some singles you can run with no BOV and the pressure goes back through the turbo; stalling it and giving a chatter noise. a dump valve or BOV will usually give a different kind of noise depending on the size and shape of the flute that the air comes out of. BURT
yes fella, it does eliminate the hissing to a degree and will replace you recurc' blow off valve, the blow off valve is also better for your tubbies than a dump-vale, as it only dumps pressure thats the tubbies dont need, dump valves however do just that, they dump all pressure between gear change, wich mean your tubbs do have to work a little harder to spool up again

I'm pretty sure it's one of those 'regular misconception' things that they are different. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=35947 I may be wrong though - we need an expert really. JohnA
Maybe that salesman should care to elaborate. I'm always intrigued by theories and explanations cocked up within milliseconds in order to close a sale...
Ian W
it does make quite a convincing story though JohnA, you have to admit. certainly for someone like myself who knows not a lot about tubbies, bov's etc would more than likely believe every word of it. wouldn't mind knowing the facts though if there are any experts in here? ps you getting rid of the n/a then dark? mikeyb10supra
There is no difference, it releives compression surge/excess boost, and thats it....does'nt matter if its a BOV, Dump, air release or any other name they care to call it, they can be made to do different things, but all have the same function
dark stranger
so whats the chattery noise some have....is it when there is no dumo valve??

Alex
Dump Valves and BOV's are the same. But you can have Push or Pull type. And you can have recirculating or "to atmosphere" BOV's. Recirculation BOV's are best used with MAF based Supra's and are quieter. Atmospherics are best on MAP based Supras these are loud. The only DV/BOV I know of that chirps is the BAILEY one, it did it on my 200SX....however, for all I know the unit was faulty and I was actually getting turbo chatter Not running a bov and getting the noise you want through stalling the turbo's is a VERY BAD IDEA!!!! Don't even contemplate it. Too much stress, only race cars should do it imo.
