Sorry about that...

TIP NUMBER ONE:

The radiator/battery/headlight adjuster (?) etc etc.

does NOT have to be removed as stated in the Toyota

instructions (available on mkIV.com)

TIP NUMBER TWO:

The Crank-Pulley Bolt is INCREDIBLY TIGHT ! ! !

[the bloke doing it has 'done' hundreds of different timing-belts

at work/as privates..... Soop is without a doubt the TIGHTEST

to date ! = ~239ft-lbf ! ! ! needed 2-handed-hold-on-pulley and

2-handed-hold-on-bolt ! !]

TIP NUMBER THREE:

DO THE WATER PUMP AT THE SAME TIME ! !

It's exactly (~) the same job (except the crank-pulley !) to do the

pump and it seems to be a fairly normal thing to fail (well, it is on

most cars !).

pics to follow........

ROB: Fan - YES, Shroud - NO.

did take off top rad hose and air filter box/feed to get a bit

of leverage room (for the 'scaffold-poles !!)

MATT: T-Belt ~£22, F-Belt ~£12, W-Pump ~£60, Pulley ~£30,

Tensioner ~£33, LABOUR..... he hasn't said yet (???)

Started at ~11am, Finished at ~5.30pm, BUT had to

spend ~1 1/2 hrs going to get tool to 'lock-up' crank pulley

~3/4hr lunch (1/4lb Cheese' & Chips:p )

[i'll get the bills later today and re-print !]

ALEX: after trying all the normal methods (bolts-in-pulley-holes

etc), finally had to get DAD to ask Toyota if we could

borrow their proper tool !.... however, when he got it from

them, THEY don't use the Toyota tool ! ! They use a GIANT

version of an oil-filter-chain-wrench ! !

AND..... it WORKS ! took all MY weight to 'lock' it and all HIS

weight to 'crack' it free ! !..... also the chain and the tool's

'teeth' left some marks on the 'ribs' on the pulley:mad:

my mate said they wouldn't matter, but, while he got the

W-Pump off I decided to use a needle file to get rid of

most of the marks on the pulley.

It wasn't a TOYOTA belt, it was Gates who are OE on Vauxhalls

and make the belts for a LOT of 'main agents'.

Same with the Timing-Belt.

My "£12" was buying TRADE through the firm.... ~£20/£25 retail.

note. I would NOT put some of the 'cheaper' pattern gear on, but

have no problems at all with using the OE manufacturers/suppliers.

I COULD have got the Fan-Belt for ~£8 in Powertrain....

but would rather pay a 'fraction' more and have a 'nearly'-Toyota

part (?) if that makes any sense:conf:

The only reason I had to get the Tensioner from Toyota was...

NOBODY ELSE MAKES THE BUGGER ! ! !

BTW....

.......took all MY weight to 'lock' it and all HIS........

Have been told to restate this ! ! !

It was NOT me that UNLOCKED it with the chap...

Another fitter from work was there and HE unlocked it with him ! !

I helped LOCK it up afterwards ! !

I was accused today of claiming credit for someone elses labour:music:

SORRY IF I GAVE THE IMPRESSION OF DOING MORE WORK THAN I DID
