oxygene
Hi All I got down to Abbey Motor Sport this week and got my car tested. The results of the tests were not good. The first 4 Cylinders working at about 173psi, the fifth is working at 143psi and the sixth isnt working at all, its running at 0psi. Lets say they didnt get as far as testing for oil leaks!! They have quoted me £1320 to remove the head and have said that I may need 2 or more new pistons, plus my inlet vavle isnt working properly?? They say they can prolly get it all done in a week and they can book it in from the 2nd week in December. So I am prolly looking at a bill of at least £1600 if not more!! Then again the car currently sits at 126,000+ miles, so I can't whinge too much, as it has done a lot of work and my right foot isnt very light (Far will agree with me on that one hehehehe) Im currently in the process of making some money available to get the work carried out and will keep you all updated of any developments. Supragal
Mate, gutted for you How long have you had the car? For a lot of those miles?
Chris Wilson
If the piston(s) are damaged it will almost certainly need a rebore and 6 oversize pistons, a LOT LOT more than the price you mention, if you are working to a budget a used engine will be a lot cheaper. oxygene
Ive had the car nearly two years. I will get them to take the head off and check it out. I spoke to a garage who were talking about a replacement engine etc, and they quoted me nearly £4000. Well the car is only worth £4109 part-ex (did a check on autotrader) so its the cost of the car id be spending out.. Anywayz I am still looking to find the money to get the work done and i will prolly get it booked in the 1st week of dec.

oxygene
The car has lost some of its power. Still goes pretty fast, but not as much as when I first bought it.

oxygene
Hi All Car is booked in to go to Abbey Motor Sport on Dec. 8th. They say they will have the car in for about a week so I am gonna have 2 hire a car for the period. Will let you all know how it goes.... AG my Supra is the best car I have ever owned, it would be stupid not to get her repaired.
far
look on the bright side - at least you dont have to pay the 4k you originally got quoted. Also I would check these guys out - they are in east london and are dam cheap - a few of my mates of got blocks of them at very reasonable prices - I think it would be a better idea . http://www.khitaicars.com/home.htm
oxygene
Took the car into Abbey Motorsport this morning. They say they should have it for about a week (fingerz X'd) Im hoping its something simple and they dont have her for too long. Im now reduced to driving a Vauxhall Omega 2.5 V6 which I've hired. Will keep you all informed on any shit that happens.
outatime
Sorry to hear about your car mate, hope it gets sorted... I would be interested to know what the symptoms were, what made you take your car in to be checked? Was it just loss of performance? Cheers. oxygene
yeah and loss of oil as well (bit worrying as you can imagine) they have quoted me a week so hopefully it wont be any longer than that.
oxygene
I spoke to Abbey Motorsport today and they finally got started on my car today (Im noticing a pattern here!!) When I spoke to them, the turbo's were out and the inlet manifold was next.... They say my turbos need to go off to a turbo specialist to be looked at. They have told me the turn around on the turbos should be about 4 days...? They are going to phone me again when they have got head off, which should be tomorrow lunchtime...ALLEGEDLEY!!! So I will post up more news then...
oxygene
Hi All Just spoke to Abbey.......Glass of whisky in hand! They have quoted me 695+VAT per turbo for reconning, but as a standard the people they are sending them to (called Turbo Dynamics ) upgrade them to Hybrid Turbos as a standard. They have said if the turbos are sent off today they will be back on tuesday. Total for tubo recon = £1633.25 (gulp!) They say they cant see anything really wrong inside the engine, they are currently running a load of tests and will come back to me later today. The cost for them taking the head off is £1370 and they are gonna come back to me with prices for gaskets later this afternoon. So currently the sub total is £3003 and counting......Sod the glass, now drinking straight from the whisky bottle. Will post back with more news later today. Adam W
You could get a pair of hybrids from a known good supplier (the guy that Leon or Paul E use for example) for that price, I would feel a lot more confident about that than letting some unheard of company do the work. Suprash
1300 to remove the head sounds pricey to me mate, not that I know any better, Im sure someone else can comment, but if thats the case, I'll take it off myself
oxygene
At the moment all I wanna do is get the car back, so I can drive her again. I know its a lot of money for the turbos, but if I change them fromthe stock ones, I have got inform the insurance co. and I dont wanna imagine how much they r gonna bump up the price if I tell em I have fitted hybrid turbos. At least this way they cant say anything as they are still thoretically stock turbos....! The company (Abbey Motorsport) was recommended 2 me by a friend who goes to them with his R33 Skyline....So thats why I have gone with em, as they have given my mate some great service. Nick
I'm not advising you to defraud your insurance company but I very much doubt they'd notice they were hybrids should you make a claim...
oxygene
no but if they ask me if I have changed anything on the car from the stock parts I can say No! all the parts are the ones fitted from the factory....which is bending the truth slightly, as whats inside the TC's is different, but its still the stock unit. Adam W
Ash, the hybrids these guys are selling you are identical from an insurance point-of-view to Leons. Leons are known to be of excellent quality though (and there are other reputable suppliers through this board). I would be very nervous about handing over 1600 to a company I'd never heard of before, you don't know whether they'll honour guarantees etc and they won't have done as much supra specific reasearch as "our" guys into what spec works best. I would say that taking the head off is under 10 hours work btw . . . £1300 labour for that sounds WAY OTT!
