Starting problems HELP!

Hi Guys could do with some advice quickly as i need my car as a daily drive.

Before my single the car never had a problem starting ever. Since the single the battery went so that has been replaced with a new one from halfords. The car did have a problem starting when it was hot due to the map on my greddy ultimate, but again took it back and got it sorted.

But over the last couple of weeks its been getting worse were I might need to crank it for 15-20 seconds before it starts and pumping the accelerator seems to help. When the car does fire up its quite lump for about 5 seconds then runs fine. When the car is hot it runs and starts fine.

Just wondering about were to check really. I was going to have a look at the plugs but they are less and a year old and have only done about 2000 miles. The battery is fine and I’ve checked that. Was going to have clean of my lamba sensors see if that helps but after that I was thinking could it be a map issue? As the weather has gone colder than before?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers Rob

I will check the water temp sensor again make sure its not come off some how. There has been some fueling mods i.e. 650cc PE injectors and HKS fuel pump (I have a PHR fuel kit on the way). But what i can understand is its been running fine for months on cold start up since the single being put on.

There is a fouled plug clean feature on the EMU where if you hold wide open throttle and then crank the engine over for a few seconds it works some magic. Then stop cranking, close the throttle, and try starting it. If you've got some sort of too-rich-to-start issues then this may well help, and could explain why pumping the throttle helps.

It also saves pulling the plugs to clean them  It's a brilliant feature and it does actually work.

Thanks Ian i will give that a try later hope it works! I keep wondering if it is a bit rich on start up as there is loads of black carbon on the exhaust and garage door on start up. I had a look at the map and there is no entries on the injector map but under the airflow map there seems to be -18 figures. I could post a couple of the screen shots again just to rule that out.

Thanks again

So its still no better. Ruled a few things out.

Check plugs they look fine

Check battery again no problems

Checked all wiring etc around field harness and everything looks fine

Checked water temp sensor again looked fine.

Still wondering if its the map TBH and with this really cold weather its just making it hard to start.

Here is a couple screen shots of the map

Any help would be much appericated!

Think im getting closer! Yesterday got a mate to bring a tester round and found that the cranking amps where a bit down. So his advice was to charge the battery. So did that. Also stripped the temp sensor and wiring and gave it a good cleaning as well as the Lamba sensor. Anyway this also reset the ecu as well.

After this the car started instantly no problems. Thought great fixed. Anyway came to the car today and the wouldn’t start :( problem back or is it? The car didn’t want to start but could this be the ECU "learning" as when it started it ran really rough for about 10 seconds then it was fine. Plus the AFR have been all over the place whilst driving today mainly round 11.1.

Anyway all I can hope that the problem is sorted and its just the ECU going through the start up procedures.
