Rayman
I see this every now and then on eBay, what exactly does it... (is it a hidden bidder?) Any idea what it is? No theyve changed the bidding viewing policy, you cant see who your bidding againsts now, or something to that affect anyway, not sure on the exact reason theyve changed it! Vicky
Rather than displaying bidders i.d's now it just says bidder 1 ect, not sure of the purpose?!
JustGav
Ah okay, I initially spotted it on an auction a few days back, and I thought it was some sort of scam bid, because I couldn't see who was bidding... Ah well, love to know the reason as it is confusing..
Rayman
As online shopping evolves, eBay continues to focus on preserving our marketplace's open and level playingfield whilst protecting our Community of members. We have decided to change how bid history information is displayed so unscrupulous people cannot target bidders with fake offers using this information. In certain cases, some bidders will no longer be able to see other bidder's User IDs on the listing page. Your User ID will be shown only to you and the seller of the item you're bidding on. Other members will see an anonymous name, such as Bidder 1, Bidder 2 etc.
sdavies
Is that just for automotive auctions, or is it an option when setting the auction up? Some small items I have bids on look normal to me at the moment (although - these really are pidldy little items ). Edit: Just saw rays post. Blimeys! Rayman
Pointless if you ask me, theyd be much better off putting their resources into stopping shill bidding etc!
Jake
Pointless if you ask me, theyd be much better off putting their resources into stopping shill bidding etc! And this new policy of not showing the bidder IDs means that the likes of us are now not able to spot Shill Bidders. Just another case of eBay supporting the scammers instead of the honest traders. Rayman
I still like ebay but you really only shud bid what your are prepared to pay. Sounds simple enough but its all too easy to get into a bidding war with for all you know a shill bidder!

Sounds simple enough but its all too easy to get into a bidding war with for all you know a shill bidder! I nearly got carried away myself one day. Was bidding on some euro maps for a navigation system. Bid a couple of times but somebody kept outbidding me - and then they increased their bid by quite a bit (think they were genuine) which was more than I wanted to pay. However - my reaction was "I'll show you" and started to enter a very silly max bid - I stopped myself before completing it. It's very easy to be sucked in! I'm afraid I'm one of the people who bids as the auction ends now.
flukey-lukey
Ahh thanks rayman, I've wondered who these 'bidder7' and the likes are for some time! lol I thought it was one guy who had 8 accounts (from bidder1 to bidder8) so left some auctions alone...silly me
sdavies
Ok it seems that if you are an interested bidder in the auction you can see all the ID's, but if you are viewing it anonymously all you will see is bidder. Edit: Ok, I give up - it must be something I am missing, as I can see id's anonymously and with no interest in the auction (pooing all over my idea). Must be high value auctions only? Edit Edit: Ah, I can see it on one or two auctions for cars only. Heh, I guess thats what you guys are normally looking at I normally only look at *TAT* on eBay, cos pretty much thats all it is worth dabbling with on there
