BASHTHEBISHOP
Got in the car after work today and it started fine but as soon as my foot hit the throttle it was accompanied by a 'whiney' noise. This carried on in tandum with the throttle for the 1st couple of miles and then stopped. I stopped at a shop a few miles later & yet again same thing happened after starting the car and starting to drive. The noise increases in pitch and level the more i apply the throttle. The closest thing i can describe it to is like the power steering whine you hear on some cars when applying heavy steering at slow or stationary speeds.. Any ideas any one? PS - other than the noise car seems fine.
RedM
I think I get this and only during the winter. Something to do with the BOV but I may be wrong. Once it warms up it all seems fine.
Kranz
Ancillary belt squeal due to the cold & damp??? Or the idler or tensioner bearing??
Feakins
Or possible crank pulley? Mine used to make a small whine but it stopped after 5 seconds.
RedM
Not so much a squeal more of a low, moaning whistle. Almost like a sound effect from a ghost movie.
BASHTHEBISHOP
Thanks guys. Is worst case scenario that i might have to replace the crank pulley then?
Kranz
Try spraying a bit of Wd40 on the belt when its running & making this noise at idle (if it does) to rule out belt problems. Can you record the sound???
RedM
Have a look at this thread. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=52240&highlight=ghostly
