Animal
I hope it's that, otherwise my autobox is wankered! Yesterday it started making banging noises from the passenger rear wheel when doing low speed turns (i.e. parking) and it felt like I'd hit a brick - the rear wheel seemed to bounce. This morning on my way to the dentist it did it again - bang, bang, bang! and serious bouncing from the passenger rear wheel. Just as I was pulling into a parking spot it went bang, grind grind grind. Now when I put it into gear (forwards or reverse) there is just a god awful grinding noise from the back of the car. When it happened last night it felt as though the rear wheel was on a sprocket and it was bouncing over the teeth, that's the best way I can describe it. HELP!! Elliot
Can you get underneath and take some photos? Especially if it looks like anything has leaked.
Animal
Just been on the phone to my mate - he reckons it's the driveshaft that's gone. Can't really get under it yet as it's just been left on the road outside my dad's. I did have a look when it went this morning and there was no sign of any leaks. Chris Wilson
C/V joint failure. I have a good drivers side one here, but that's probably not much use to you. It's virtually unheard of for C/V joints to go, unless thet have split gaitors and the grease has come out, or the car has been seriously abused, standing start wise, or some wazzock has jacked the car up using the driveshaft as a jacking point. Animal
Cheers Chris. Not sure on the condition of gaitors, etc yet. I wouldn't say it's had serious abuse - some fast starts from traffic lights, but nothing extreme and (since I have had it, at least) it has been wazzock-free, lol. Any idea of what it'll cost to repair?
Chris Wilson
Srcond hand driveshaft maybe 100 quid, fitting maybe 60 quid?
Animal
Well, my dad's just stripped the arse end off the supe and the drive shafts look fine, so I was right the first time - my diff's gone bang! Don't know what the damage is yet, he's just rung me at work to tell me what he's found so far and he's yet to get the diff off. So there'll be a nice shiny TRD LSD coming from Envy in a few weeks. Oh well, it was on my shopping list, I'll just be getting it a bit sooner than planned. Full Revs Animal

Animal
Just come back from my dad's. The planet wheels are FUBAR! Crown wheel is intact, there was still plenty of oil in it and no signs of heat. We haven't stripped the diff down completely yet, but I'm reckoning there's been a stress fracture on a tooth of one of the planet wheels which was getting picked up under low speed manouvres causing the bangs and then the whole unit just lunched itself instantly. Homer
First time I've seen a lunched diff posted on here (but not the first time its happened!). Did a proper job on that one! Let us know how the TRD compares please
Animal
I do things properly, I do. I'll let you all know what the TRD one's like when it's in. TBH I've no idea what to expect from it, the only thing I know about diffs is from building one out of lego as a kid...not a clue about how it'll affect the handling. I'll soon find out though... And I'll have watched a shitload of Initial D cartoons by then, too. Heh heh.
