Lucifer
Ok, this is a slightly dodgy subject.... I now have the ability to change the mileometer on the Supra. I was thinking of offering this; subject to talking to the DVLA regarding changing the miles to the genuine miles after an import. Would anyone be interested in this service? So if you car came over and had its conversion at 60,000kms then it could genuinley read : 37284. This is of course subject to the DVLA and relevent bodies agreeing this can legally be done. Jake
It must be legal because the Odometer on my 93 RZ was converted to miles by the local garage and they gave a receipt for the job.
suprasport
it is legal. sure i have seen a thread about how to do it somewhere
Steve
Same here mine was converted when mine was imported. Also have a certificate for it
Lucifer
Yes it does but the miles don't get put back do they?

SteveR
I would want this doing on my car if it's all legal
Lucifer
So this already happens? then? Yes or no? Cos im getting lots of conflicting advice.

Steve
Just checked the certificate i have and it just says that it was converted to Miles, to get the true miles reading i have to detract 2603(ish) miles. I was wrong!
Jake
So this already happens? then? Yes or no? YES! Not often though. Like I said before, my car used to have 110,000 Kms on the Odometer and the local garage changed to it read sixty something thousand miles and it clocked up in miles from then on. Jurgen also knows somebody who can do it. There is a market for this service though because it's difficult to find places that will/can do it. JohnA
So this already happens? then? Yes or no? Cos im getting lots of conflicting advice. Of course it happens, if the overall condition of the car means that it would pass as a 30K mile younger one, don't you think it's tempting for some traders? £50 and you only have to say that you've changed the clocks or something (so it should now reflect the true mileage, which is whatever figure you give them) If you don't have the string of MOTs and service stamps from early on, you've got nothing to check on. 30K mile 1993 imports? Yeah, right....
Pete
I don't see the point in it myself. If you have documentation like the first MOT (or even better, auction sheets etc) with the odo reading in KM, then it's not hard to work it out. I think many people would feel happier buying a car that hadn't been tampered with in this way.
Pig
Can you do this on a UK spec?
JohnA
Yes, but you'd have to lose the full service history Typical UKSpecs have papers from the original owner onwards. that's lots of paperwork, that weighs a lot, making them heavy and slow lol... carl0s
Yes it is easily done. It is supposedly not possible to just 'set' the odo to a given mileage. Instead it has to be reset to zero, and then left for a couple of days to count up. So Jay, gis a clue. I have a spare odo here and fancied playing with it
Lucifer
No I Will Not Do It To A Uk Spec. That Is Clocking.
Bobbeh
It would look a bit daft if you did too, so soon after complaining about high miles and selling

Jurgen-Jm-Imports
steve r give me a pm if u want this doing for your car as i brought it in for you and you have auction sheet so that is no probs for your car if u ever sell on and mot. also as afaik when u import a car you get the kilometres stamped on the de reg copys not always just when the car in japan is verified, ie so if u took to dvla and your docs dont match the mot you will get done. example taking a car with de reg docs on 140000km and saying it has 60000 the dvla has caught onto all this and is working with japan so this is a really good thing, for cars that have been in uk already and u fancy doing the conversion you must contact the importer as the dvla may have record of original km when it got registered and if something ever gets flagged up then shit hit the fan. so its not easy to do but it has probs been abused in past a lot and now the dvla are clamping in it up. i know of an import company that went bust for doing this and got found out and this was for very minor clocking not worth it, but if you are going to do it you must know what was on your docs. i normally for private imports leave on km so they know what they are getting and can be verified with the auction sheet so there is no probs thi is the best way imo, but then if u de-limit the odo display is in km and the needdle in mph spoils things. thats the advice i can give you on this, just be carefull. Jurgen-Jm-Imports
oh and yes its legal to do this conversion as long as the paperwork is correct u will have no probs if it got flaged up if u dont know its history then your taking a dodgy risk and playing with fire.
