Rolling Road Day

Well seeing as the weather means no track days or drag strip fun, would anybody be interested in a Rolling Road Day down at Surrey?? I spoke to Charlie and he has a free weekend at the beginning of December. Think we'll need about 10 people to make it worth while and it'll be around the £40 mark, but i'll need to finalise that with him. So come on, put your names down and i need to know rather soonish.

Edited to say the date will be Sunday 4th December :D

*****Price = 4 or more cars means it'll be £35 each.

11:00 meet at....

Surrey Rolling Road Ltd,

Unit F, 4 Doman Road,

Yorktown Industrial Estate,

Camberley,

Surrey,

GU15 3DF

I think the date will probably be Sunday 4th December. We could do the Saturday but people usually have plans for shopping on Saturdays.

hmmmm tempted to bring my FTO along, but I'm not sure how I feel about the shame of having less than 200 bhp..........can't decide......

What do you guys think?

What, about the shame of having less than 200 bhp, or whether to run your car? ;)

It'll all end in tears, you mark my words :D

Personally, I've never seen the fascination of sticking a car on a dyno for a power run, with no purpose other than to get a, fairly meaningless, bhp figure.

It invariably ends in dissapointment, either that the figure given is way less than what you think it should be, (or have bragged to your mates in the pub :) )or it shows up an obscure fault, that costs a fortune to fix, that you were blissfully unaware of, because up until then you thought the car was running great :(

If you're going to get a power run, then do some mods and take the car back to the same RR and see what difference you've made, then its a great way of checking that you're modding in the right direction. Obviously for ECU mapping and the like, its mandatory.

Personally, Sabrina, I'd rather put the £40 or so towards something tangible for the car, rather than pay someone to rev the life out of my newly fitted engine :taped:

I am just curious about it is all, for my own personal use. GPX is supposed to be 200bhp standard, but I don't think it is. Hence why I'm not sure. :tumble:. :badidea:

Everything you have said has crossed my mind as well. But as I do mods to my car, given my car is mostly standard now, it would also be nice to have a base figure to begin from. IE, I bought the car and it was running at 136bhp :haha: and now I have done this this and this to it, its now running at 176 bhp. :p. Instead off, its meant to have 200bhp, and now I have induction, stainless exhaust, decat and nitrous, and then put it on the rollers for it to only run at 176 for example. I wouldn't know what the real power gain was.

Does any of that make sense?

Just as you said here [now I re read it] :music:

thats why I am going again, did a dyno there at the last group dyno meet. Last time the car was standard and now it got a bit of BPU so would be nice to see whats the diff in numbers

My friend MR2 was there last time and I have to say MR2 is not easy to dyno due to funny engine position and air intake.

Agreed - however using one to ensure that the fuelling etc is correct and that you have both turbos working (this has happened on a couple of the cars at SRR!) is a very good idea

However - this does put a strain on the engine so make sure you are fully oiled etc

If you intend to mod the car, then a base figure is useful to see how much power is gained (or lost :( ) by the mods. Bear in mind though, that figure is only of any use on the same rolling road, and is not written in stone, as things like temperature, operator and basic RR settings will distort the figures given, from one week/month/year to the next.

Just don't get too hung up on the actual figures. If you think you'd be mortified if you only got, say, 150 bhp, then its probably best not to run. If however you view it as just a number for comparison purposes, then it probably can't do any harm.

The main thing is to be truthful with yourself Sabrina. For some people, getting dissapointing figures can spoil a perfectly good car. They were quite happy believing it had 195 bhp, but the reality of 147bhp upsets them, and either results in them spending a fortune modding it up to the "proper" bhp or never quite feeling as happy with it as they were before the RR.

Silly, I know, it's the same car, but just not quite as good, now you know its not the tyre frying monster you once believed it was.

Ridiculously, maybe if they'd have taken it to a different RR, they'd have got 200 bhp and be over the moon, saying things like "I always thought this car was a bit quicker than the other std ones :D "

If you just think of it as a good opportunity for a meet with other owners, with the added bonus of a RR run, whatever the outcome, then you'll probably have fun.

 Well said. I certainly do not believe the power figures reported on a standard FTO. I've read other RR reports from FTO meets and most seemed to be around the 176bhp [manual cars anyway]. Mines a Tip so its definately going to be lower. I suspect around 136 as its almost standard[ha ha ha ha - possibly lower] So I'm not likely to be setting myself up for a dissappointment.

For the social side of it, I'm an excellent passenger in terribleturners' car the majority of the time.

:respekt:
