chilli
I'm going to be fitting my new GSS342 shortly and was wondering: What is the correct type of heat shrink sleeving to use to insulate the wires after I've joined them, is PTFE best? Or will any type suffice? Just a bit nervous since it's in the fuel tank, want to do a proper job here! Is there anyone on here who could supply me with the correct stuff? Just a small length, say 10cm would do the trick I expect.
Dragonball
Do not use heatshrink in the petrol tank!! Petrol dissolves some of them and you will find your wires exposed!! Also - cut them at different lengths so is anything does - then they cannot touch Rgds
Alex
I used a terminal block to connect them together...they shouldn't work loose from there.
chilli
Hmmm so are you saying no heat shrink is safe at all? I thought PTFE was resistant to mostly everything? Terminal blocks in the tank? is that completely safe? I always thought they were an automotive "no no" in general, let alone in the fuel tank! My plan was to cut the wires (staggered at different lengths) and then solder the wires together, insulating it all with a nice, decent length of suitable heatshrink sleeving. Maybe I should just use some regular long sleeving then instead?

Thats how i was going to do mine when i installed my second pump. how does everybody else do theirs?
Jake
I used a terminal block to cover the soldered joints. Works great. According to this thread CW sells petrol resistant heat shrink.

Ian C
Terminal block for me Of course you solder the exposed wire first to give it strength. -Ian
