Bovingdon Update - Please Read

Not a happy bunny. It came to my attention last week that there are 2 owners of the airfield and that when agreeing on the fee etc... i only secured half of it. Not much of a problem we thought. So i speak to the other owner who informs me i have to speak to the local council to get permission to hold the event on his property. Odd why i would have to speak to the council about it but i do and im told i have to apply for planning permission which can take up to 8 weeks. The kind man on the phone told me he would see what he could do as the profits will go to charity. He called me back this afternoon to say that there's no way they can get it pushed through by the end of the week. This now means the space is a little more limited for the 1/4 mile. Im gonna go try it out hopefully tomorrow but i don't think there's enough braking distance :(

A quarter mile is 425 yards and the length (Red line on the map) of the straight is 510. this means a braking distance of 85 yards/255 feet. Now the thing i need to look at is the road bending to the right (Blue) and if this can be incorporated in the braking distance. I'll be trying out at full speed to see how it feels (wish me luck)

As you can imagine i'm not best pleased at all :swear: It's now not how i hoped or planned it would be at all which has really P!$$3d me off big time. On the upside the timing gear can record things like the time taken at 5/10MPH intervals. So 0-60 and 0-100 times will be easily done. Im gonna look at it more in detail over the next day or 2 but it'll pretty much do everything.

We are still going ahead with the day and will do our best to get the best out of what we have infront of us. If you do decide to still attend then you will also be able to see the space that we can potentially hire next time. I can only appologise for the changes and if anyone knows any hitmen that could knock off an airfield owner or 2 that would be helpfull.

Otherwise we look forward to seeing you all on Sunday, for BBQ, drinks, great cars, services offered by traders and best of all an open track to practice your track skills on - be it a 5 car sprint or a track experience [of sorts] :p

don't like the look of that corner at speed mate! might look worse than it actually is on the pic though! Think you should make it a sticky so everyone sees it. Maybe ring CJ too because he's probably there by now :D :run:

was a good effort on your part and even if it can't go ahead, don't think anyone's gonna be pished off at ya

Yeah i don't think it's gonna work. It's really Fing annoying. Kept me up last night threating about it and today my fears are realised  I thought it would be a sort of testing of the day for a future event, but when you get faced with these brick walls it really dampens your spirit.

But we're gonna do our best on the day.

Well that has crossed out minds. Plus he has the toilets etc as well. We are definately borrowing some of the tables mind you. It may be possible if we are discreet - ie one at a time sneaking round there every hour or something ha ha

But the point is we still have the timing software, so lets all get together and make the most of what we have.

I know that its not exactly what we have been advertising, but we still have a huge open track, 18 lanes wide - we can still have fun. :D :D :D :D

Edited to add: Is there a barrier? could the strip be run the other way around and have the run off onto the other part "if needed" ;)

Unfortunately there are gates, which are openable, but its two - three car widths. Its a possibility..............just as long as Mrs Simms doesn't tell Mr Mash. :D [real names :omg:]

Could we run where ive marked green?

Not trying to be pushy here, just trying to help with idea, but I guess you have been over most things.

perhaps change it to head to head drags with specific braking point..

JB

This sounds much more realistic and in some ways could make things more competitive - people will be racing each other instead of chasing a specific 1/4 mile time....

Although us slow BPU guys might be able to stop in 200 odd feet some of the bigger power cars could struggle.

Pointless fact: The highway code says you need 315 feet to stop from 70mph

Well that is all I have to say on the matter.

Will have a great day anyway and we could always try to get the other owner to stand in the middle of the track and act like a breaking point, shame mine stops like a pig Oh well clock up another 50 points.

doesnt the supra only need 185 feet to stop at that speed (on UK brakes naturally)

Im more than happy to just head to head with somebody but perhaps see how it goes on the day.
