Whitesupraboy2
How old is it and how many hours has it been watched? I dont know if the hitachi has a menu to find this out like other TV's, cheers
pistonbroke
It's three years old. No idea about hours used, I'll check. It's my dads, he only uses it to watch films, he rarely watches TV (spends most of his time in the pub) There is no degradation at all on the screen, and no dead pixels. pistonbroke
You fit this in your car? If you removed the electronic swivel stand (yes, the TV can swivel via the remote.) I reckon you could lie it flat in the back of the supe with the seat down. Edit, oh I see, I've put this thread in the wrong section. Mods, please move

Scott
I know you are trying to base the value on this TV against depreciation but I honestly think you will struggle to fetch such a sum. Back when the TV was bought it was probably a top spec TV but nowadays you can buy similar size TV's, brand new and with even better spec for what your Dad is asking. As an example for an extra couple of £100 you can get a 3DTV with bluray player etc from Comet. Not trying to piss on your chips Dan, or your Dad's, just trying to point out that you might really struggle to sell for that kind of money. Once you go over the 50" mark, prices rocket. How big is the 3dTV for a couple hundred more? I know what you're saying about depreciation, this TV was over 3k when new. However, comparing it to current cheaper sets such as the big sammys or LG, this set still outperforms them. I know you can get smaller sets with higher spec than this, but to most blokes, size matters . Trust me, this is one hell of a TV for £700, if I didn't already have the same set myself, I'd be having it. My dad is desperate to get his new 60" Sony, so make a sensible offer, he may well accept it. He doesn't need the money, he just wants the set gone to make room for his big new one. Scott
Yeah I know what you mean with the 55", I had a look at them when I got my telly last year and it was quite a jump. I think the one on Comet was 42"? Not really sure. A 50" TV can be bought for silly money now though. I am actually looking to get a TV for the bedroom but 50" is a crazy size, nevermind a 55" lol. GLWS Edit: No, it's actually 50" sorry link
Whitesupraboy2
You are right size is everything The contrast ratio is only 1000:1 and Plasma TV's are known for their black's becoming white'd out over time and as id use it purely for gaming, contrast is important. So im out. good luck with sale though!
pistonbroke
There's nothing wrong with the blacks on it. Certainly better than the current cheap big stuff.

SteveC
It's three years old. No idea about hours used, I'll check... Engineers mode on Hitachi 55": (assuming it's the same layout etc as the Hitachi 55PMA550E) TV in stand-by and on TV control panel: press input and down buttons together and whilst holding press power/stand-by button - hold 5 seconds hours used is shown at item number 284 The 7 control buttons on screen from left: 1. Power 2. Vol down 3. Vol up 4. Size/sel down 5. Recall/sel up 6. Input 7. menu ...The contrast ratio is only 1000:1... If they contrast ratio had been tested the way they test them nowadays, then the contrast ratio would be some silly figure like 100,000:1. Blacks on these TVs are actually quite good.
