how to fit your stubby conversion

this is a guide of how to fit your stubby conversion aerial

firstly this is how the oem aerial should look on the car with the mast down

first thing you need to do is remove the locking nut like so , use a hammer and screwdriver with car to undo if tight remembering to hit forward away from car so you dont damage your paintwork

then remove the black rubber grommet, it is very important you do NOT throw this bit away you are going to need it

you then need to remove the boot plastics so you can see the electric motor that makes the mast go up and down

pull out the little drain from the floor

and using a 10mm socket undo the bolt that holds the motor housing to the body of the car

now you can remove the assembly from being fitted to the car

unplug the coax cable that goes to your radio

and unclip the power for the mast motor

you should now be left with the back of the car looking like this

now thats removed get your stubby aerial kit and it should look like this when you add your rubber grommet to the kit

this how the extension bar now goes together

this picture shows the bracket fitted

now the bracket is fitted you should be able to see the top of the bracket i.e. the bit the extension bar goes through

now put the extension bar throught the hole in the car body and the top of the bracket, then fit the large nut to extension bar and tighten, if its a pain to do undo the 10mm bolt at the bottom of the bracket so the extension is free to hang and move so you can get the big nut to bite on the extension bar as soon as the nut is on put the 10mm nut back in to hold the extension bar in place and the nut basically pulls the extension bar in to the car making the grommet seal nicley against the body of the car

now all thats left to do is fit the amplified antenna base to the bottom of the extension bar , now this is where the difference is to the Mk 1. there is now no stress to the fixing on the amplified base , now fit the the inline amplifier that should give an extra bit of boost ( everyone likes boost ) twist the two red wires together and if you run a bit of wire form the IGN live from the back of your stereo to the two red wires that are joined together this should provide enough power to the amplifiers

HINTS

* get some wire and either solder or bullet conector it to the red wire then feed it to the ignition power wire behind your stereo , the set up doesnt really need it but if you feel you want to do the job 110% then thats what you can do

* use a little bit of rubber sealant around the where the grommet meets the car ( make sure its out of sight tho ) and where the extension bar meets the top of the grommet

all thats left to do is list your old oem aerial and motor minus the black grommet on ebay

I dont have a power meter so cant check to see if that sends 12 volts constantly, if any one does have a power meter and can confirm that it does, and that the negitive not being connected is ok then it should be good to run off that wire too

you dont need it to be honest , but if you want to have that piece of mind that its connected then its up to you

I can confirm that the radio reception is absolutely fine just with aerial connected. There is no need to run the booster so ignore the red wire.

another little tip , to stop some wee shite or chav running off with your stubby use some loctite threadlocker

well round my kneck of the woods the is a certain estate where the kids will try and nick ya wheels as you drive through the place

Yes you can connect to the feed (red) that's already in the boot for the electric aerial. It's mainly for mw reception but worth doing.

The reception won't be great as the mast is too short for a supra.
