The mkiv Supra Owners Club

A Cautionary Tale

I've given a biker mate from a local club a few lifts in the Supra recently, which she really likes. Although she rides (quickly) a Suzuki bandit, she’s not really interested in cars and drives a little Peugeot 306 around.

She needed new tyres on her car last weekend, so I suggested I pick her up at the garage and give her a little go driving the Supra. My plan being to pootle round the trading estate for half an hour before going to a local pub for a beer.

When I met her she wasn’t keen at first and said no as she was wearing flip-flops, but I gently encouraged her as I knew she would like it.

Well… after three minutes going round the trading estate at 50-60 (far to fast) she was grinning like a Cheshire cat and saying she loved it, was bored going slowly, and where could we go ? I gingerly agreed and we headed out towards Salisbury !

What I’d completely forgotten was the way she rides her bike, which in biker speak, is “progressively” (to you lot, she’s just another mad biker):eyebrows:

As we headed up the A36 it was obvious that she saw the Supe not like her little 306 car but more like a cross between her bike and a cruise missile !

After about ten minutes I relaxed (a little) and realised that she was a very competent driver although a little more “progressive” than me when it came to overtaking and speed in general.

It was at this point she said her goal was to get to at least 140 :taped: and I somehow felt a little less relaxed :scare:

Sadly for her (but not for me) during the next two hours (some in the rain) she failed to reach her goal, but only by about 5-10 MPH.

As we got back to the garage there was some silly talk of her keeping it for the rest of the day and swapping over the day afterwards and for some insane reason I found myself with the keys to her Peugeot 306 and me losing my lovely Supe on the toss of a pound coin !

There was a tear in my eye as I saw her blast away from the Garage in an instant to the sound of the RLTC being used to the full :bye:

Plans changed later that day and I collected it from her in the evening (I’m sure it still smelled hot) and all ended well - apart from I’m sure the next time we go out for a pootle, I won’t be driving, and we won’t be “pootling”.

It’s possible you will meet Gemma at SupraPod, and if she goes, I fear you may well see her on the strip, so to those with big singles amongst you , keep your keys in your pockets for Gods sake :Pling:

G

PS. Obviously the manic speeds were done on a private track ! :-)

I read this as "may see her strip".

Either way, I'm looking forward to Saturday! :D

Thank you for your support you guys.

Although we all like to think that a "mere girl" couldn't drive our big macho cars, let me remind you that one of the fastest times last year (or pos the year before) was set by a very cute, slim, five feet nothing lady who's name was Tigger in Pigs big single turbo !

Ok, she may have needed a cushion and Pig may have needed drugs to keep him calm, but she did it :D

And anyway, if it helps "further our relationship" she can drive it as fast as she likes as often as she likes :p

I won't even scream next time - promise :D

Wow I am really looking forward to Saturday now, can you make sure you have a full tank of petrol as I would hate to run out on my 3rd time down the strip ;) xx

You ought to know, lady members can't say "strip" without comments from all the long standing male members :D

Don't worry, i'll fill her up just for you x

The car or...? :D

Gerry, we need tasteful pics to evaluate if you've done the right thing or not. And I don't mean of your engine bay.

Hope I haven't gone too far.

That's a pity as I was going to post up some tasteless ones, but I won't now as obviously you are easily offended :D

Postscript

I love my Supra :)

I'm sure it's because of my outstanding personality and charm and nothing to do with the Supra, but I'm delighted to report that Gemma and I are now "an item" :D

(however, I'm never going to be without a Supe again - just in case) :p

Gerry

Gemma
