northeast_supra
Hi all I currently run a mk4 na auto and going to look at a mk3 single turbo with the intention to drop the engine, box, pedal box, and brakes into my mk4 i know the gearbox isnt a direct swap but since i`ll have both the cars (mk3 and mk4) can anyone tell me if i`ll need to buy anything in to get the parts to fit and which parts are a straight bolt on job? any help would be great as im looking the mk3 tomorrow thanks

RobSheffield
So you are going to remove a reliable 2JZ and fit an unreliable 7M?
northeast_supra
So you are going to remove a reliable 2JZ and fit an unreliable 7M? i dont know if its the 7m or the other i've only had my supra for 2 weeks and the ideal of a single turbo engine over a na sounds good hence the questions i take it 7m`s arent the best then? even if the engine is no good they still have 4 pot brakes i can put onto mine dont they? Homer
If it's a 7M, it'd be a major step backwards. Also brakes - not worth it, not a direct swap as far as I can find. Just sounds like a poorly thought out plan fitting parts from a car designed in the early 80's!
pezzler
Hi all I currently run a mk4 na auto and going to look at a mk3 single turbo with the intention to drop the engine, box, pedal box, and brakes into my mk4 ....oh dear
northeast_supra
blimey not as good as it sounded then.. the ideal of going from na to single turbo was apealing but if there mk3 was really that bad i think i`ll just strip it for the parts and make some money :s
dr_jekyll
i dont think i have ever seen anybody put a 7m in a mk4 in place of a 2jz? a 1jz would be a nice swap dont be afraid to ask questions before you comit to things mate , thers alot of verry knowlagable people on this forum that will see you straight. i have learnt alot from asking questions on here and they have saved me lots of money and time Edited March 26, 2010 by dr_jekyll (see edit history)
northeast_supra
thanks so if its a 7m dont bother with the swap strip it for parts if its the 1jz then it`ll make a good swap... i`ll make sure i have a look at the engine codes as i dont know what the difference is between the two thanks guys
dangerous brain
OMG if its a 7M you won't be taking much cash breaking it either. Almost all the parts on it are available for knaff all at breakers yards. If its a 1JZ then you are quids in dependent on the single turbo fitted, the supporting fuel mods and its appropriatte control method ie piggy back or standalone ecu. I'm putting my money in the you've been had with a 7m sh*tter camp
northeast_supra
bah i dont think i`ll buy it then :S might put the money on a chip or maybe some carbon
RobSheffield
You misunderstand the term. On here 'single turbo' means 'used to have 2, now has 1' whereas the 7M only has one to start. You cant chip the mk4 supra.
northeast_supra
You cant chip the mk4 supra. ooof thats a downer how come? it looks like carbon is the way i`m heading

dangerous brain
Dude sounds like you really do not have a scooby about all of this. Can I advise you have a bit of a read about on lots of the various threads on here about power and upgrades etc. I will say this here and now before the others get in with it----Perhaps you are in the wrong place if a bit of carbon floats your boat and you have no idea about the value of an actual single turbo 2JZ upgrade. It may have a toyota badge on it but the mk4 comes with a porsche upkeep cost when going beyond BPU
northeast_supra
just thought wont bother with power up-grades and just stick with dressing it up for up coming shows seeing as the first one is this sunday.. dont see any harm in that :S
dangerous brain
No mate there's no harm at all. Try and do some reading on here so you don't get sucked in by any of the countless "make your supra looks the best" bollox thats going around.
