TRD Diff - Do NA & TT use same internals

Wez

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

Maybe a stupid question but I have searched without success.

If I wanted to change to the NA/Auto final drive ratio from my large TT TRD diff would I also need to buy a new TRD unit or does everything else around it change?

My diff code is B03B and I have a TRD diff fitted.

Crown Wheel Size: A (8'' - 203mm), B (8.7'' - 221mm)

Differential Ratio: 01 (4.083:1), 02 (3.769:1), 03 (3.267:1)

Differential Type: A (Standard open differential), B (Torsen LSD)

:search:

I think what Wez is looking to do is to swap the ring and pinion gears over from the NA to the TT diff in order to change the final ratio.

The question is, will just the gears swap over?

This way he should be able to keep everything else that he has the same...

Basically no, Wes has the larger early model 6spd 2JZGTE diff fitted which has a larger diameter crown wheel (221mm), compared to all other models which were fitted with the smaller diff/crown wheel (203mm).

I wasn't sure if that was the internal diameter of the gear, or the diameter at which the pinion gear mated with it or something else.

I've not had a look at how the crown ring actually bolts to the diff so wasn't sure if the smaller one would just fit onto it.

Nic do you know what diffs are available for the smaller NA auto casing, ie TRD, Kaaz, Cusco etc?

Sorry Wes I'm not trading at the moment. If you have a look at the links above you'll find the Japanese Yen prices to compare each, think you'll find the TRD LSD to be the cheapest and easiest to get hold of.

I guess that means I will need the drive shafts and prop then :)

I am pretty certain the driveshafts are the same between the NA and TT non-early-6spd.

I've fitted a mixture of TT and NA driveshafts over the last year to mine with the NA diff, there was no difference in fitment.

The prop sounds like another matter though as Jamie said (didn't know that until recently!)

My TT has the larger diff casing which I think is different :(
