Spiritual successor to the MkIV Supra?

Since a modern day Supra doesn't exist, well the modern day equivalent has to be the BMW Coupe 335i doesn't it??????

Front engined, rear wheel drive, 4 seats, Straight-6 3.0L with twin turbos and knocking out over 300bhp as standard??

What do you's think?

The specs on paper (from what you've said) are certainly similar to the TT supra, but for me it's about a lot more than bhp and engine capacity. The main reason I like the supra is for how it looks. The 335 looks too sensible.

The 335i engine is a fantastic unit, way ahead of it's time. That's why it won engine of the year when it came out. I have to agree. I also like the way they look, although the aesthetics aren't anything like the Supra. Oh, and it's got too many real seats.

I prefer the 335 to the Supra in the looks dept. It looks modern and sleek whereas the Supra now looks like it's trying too hard.

I think a TRD spoiler sorts that right out though. It holds its own against cars like the VXR8 still IMO.

Although a Supra will still turn heads more than a BM-coup. But a few choice mod's and a 335i could look stunning.

What's so good about it compared to the 2JZ then? Broader power/torque band? Less CO2? Lighter?

What sort of power can they make? Can they become comparable to the current M3 with a few choice mods or have bmw already thought of that and put some limiting factor into its design?

I would have said the last of the 350Z's is probably as close as you get to the Supra spirit in a newer car but you can't really compare the lower end mainstream stuff of today with what Toyota were doing 15 years ago.

Its about 306bhp out the tin but most modern cars are very restricted. Exhaust, filter and a re-map should see a sizeable increase no problems.....

Althought they ain't cheap to buy new and I expect upgrade parts are costly.

It's all very well tuning them for power, they have turbos so no big deal. The hard bit is getting them to out-handle an M3. The suspension is significantly different.

Its a piston heads thing dude!!!

The supe in it's day was ahead of the game so I would say an equivalent car nowadays would have more power than the supe and would still have to be a 2+2 with sleek lines. I am sure there is something but can't think, possibly the R35 but not in the looks department.
