Rinus
Hello, fitted new rps clutch.. and fitted a repair kit on the slave cilinder. My friend has a damaged supra for parts and I took the slave cilinder of that car, just to see if that one was better condition but this one has a smaller bore *does anyone knows if this from a facelift model or something? Put the bigger bore cilinder on the 6spd but now I've got a little problem with the engagement of the clutch. It bites a bit low on the paddle , did the search:eyebrows:,full 10pages!, so I saw Chris Wilson adviced the smaller bore... *anyone know repairkit for the smaller-bore slave cilinder??? Homer
There is a bodge for this - weld an extension on the arm from the slave cylinder.
Rinus
A bodge means solution?, tried to translated it but didn't help.. Any idea how much longer this shaft has to be? *searched a bit further smaller bore cilinder is from an NA supra 93,5-96,5 repairkit nr 04313-17010 *tt-6spd repairkit 04313-14020
Rinus
Infact the shaft doesn't need to be longer, cause it engages very nice, but only an inch from the floor. So if the smaller bore reaches the end quicker i hope the paddle bites a bit higher.
Chris Wilson
The idea of using a smaller bore SLAVE cylinder is to get more bearing movement for a clean clutch release from the stock bore MASTER cylinder, as some RPS clutches fail to release fully. I wasn't aware of the different bore slave cylinders fitted, what bore sizes are these 2 units? In theory the smaller bore slave will release the clutch with less pedal travel, hence the bite point will be HIGHER.
Rinus
Thursday I will get the repair kit for the smaller slave cilinder, this weekend I will mount this cilinder, whitch is from a na 5speed I think, but was mounted on a 6 speed so it must fit... Will take the 2 bore sizes and post it here... *the cilinder inside the bigger one is red and the smaller is yellow Btw maybe there are 3 different slave cilinders, cause the repair kit for a 5spd slave cilinder is different after 96-5 hope I ordered the right one... Rinus
Ok there is another difference, the arm/pin/shaft?? from the slave cilinder is also differentsize(longer) when you use the smallerbore. http://www.mijnalbum.nl/index.php?m=fto&a=73&id=106879326&key=N6BOB6CV Here are the different cilinders; grey= repairkit 04313-17010 yellow= came out of the smaller bore cilinder with a different spring:blink: red= biggerbore cilinder, repairkit 04313-14020 http://www.mijnalbum.nl/index.php?m=fto&a=73&id=106879268&key=8CM8C4EY http://www.mijnalbum.nl/index.php?m=fto&a=73&id=106879287&key=VAWOFBCD I have used the greypiston with the big spring now and the longer arm, and engagement is good now. 1 picture left from the different cilinders sizes; tought it was 20,6mm and 22,5mm (will check this) http://www.mijnalbum.nl/index.php?m=fto&a=73&id=106879261&key=GPEXZ8YT
Chris Wilson
Sorry, only just seen this, great info and thanks for sharing. Would you know the part number of both the whole cylinder and the repair kit for the smallest bore cylinder please? Are you fairly sure it's off a 5 speed N/A, or might it be off a 6 speed N/A? Thanks again. I have PM'd you as well, I hope you don't mind.

Ian C
Am I reading this right - if you fit the smaller slave cylinder it'll alleviate the very low bite point issue with RPS clutches? And it's a pukka mod, unlike the one where you adjust the clutch pedal? -Ian
Chris Wilson
It should do, yes, so LONG as you make sure the release bearing can't make the cover fingers go near, or over, centre. The pedal will feel heavier though, of course.

Rinus, Can you be specific about which slave cylinder you bought and fitted? I've bought one of these, but there's no way it's going onto the Getrag 6 speed as the casting for the slave cylinder is different to that of the 6 speed. (The fixing holes are above the cylinder not below). Cheers, Tony
dude
6 spd NA's (which are all facelift) have a different slave cylinder to a TT, the TT one has a red piston, the NA has a gold smaller piston.
Rinus
Uhmm then I've made a stupid mistake, I didn't knew there where 6speed NA's... The car I took the cilinder offwas a 5speed NA,where they later have mounted a 6speed, so I thought they have kept the slave cilinder of the 5speed... Just read this thread again and I saw Chris already mentioned there's a 6speed na I first bought the bigger repair kit (red one) and when I wanted to mount it I saw it was smaller-bore, than the cilinder that came off my 6speed (its from 1994...), so had to buy the smaller kit... Really sorry for getting wrong info here!!, so smaller bore cilinder is from a facelift 6speed... But it does engages much better, so I think 6speed ,facelift, drivers will have less problems with engagement of the clutch (like rps streetmax) or other aftermarket uprated singleplate clutches. ..... Chris Wilson
Yes, I have used the smaller bore 6 speed N/A slave cylinder on 2 cars now and of course it does give more release bearing travel V pedal travel, so can help with clutches that only release fully when the pedal is mashed into the carpet. The additional pedal effort that comes from a smaller bore slave is negligible. I wonder when Harriet Harperson will take umbrage at the term "slave cylinder" and we are asked to discuss colonially enforced worker cylinders?
