Im prob talking crap but isnt the supra a non interferance engine, so didnt think it would work full stop it the belt was incorrectly fitted. I don't know just thinking i spose

basicly a friend that is a machanic did my timing belt but lined the arrows up out by a whole 180 degress which he didnt relesase so the car would start so we got another garage to look at it and they said that the timimg was completely out and that the vavles would had been affected and possibly the pistons the guy that did the belt is saying that it wasnt his fault but at the end of the day the car went into him working so should come out working im so pissed off you wouldnt believe so im at the stag of going through a small claims unit cos he is a complete nob and thats y im getting the newer engine put in

As above though, the supra engine runs non-interference. That means that the valves wouldn't get damaged with the timing being out. All that is required is the timing to be set correctly and the car will be fine... i think. Its maybe not that simple but its certainly not as complicated as needing a new engine.

i have spoken to a lot of japanese specialist and they have said that the valves would have bent and possibly damaged the piston but anyway its too late it nearly finshed haveing it engine put in never mind

judging by his explanation, it seems like the timing was completely out due to a cowboy working on the car and not due to the belt snapping....belt snapping shouldnt damage the valves on a supra engine.

Regardless of the timing though i can't see how the piston would come up and bend the valve. The pistons aren't anywhere near the valves.

Can i ask what japanese specialist you spoke to?

sounds more like the cambelt to me

What sounds like the cambelt? The cambelt IS the timing belt. It was set wrong so the car wouldn't run. Where it gets a bit iffy is that the timing being wrong on a supra wouldn't bend the valves as the engine is non-interferance.

Basically i reckon this guy has unfortunately been taken for a walk. Whats done is done now though.

Good luck with the sale.
