RobSheffield
Any ideas what the thread size is? Want to order 2 eyebolts to attach my harnesses EDIT, i meant seat bolts. Confused myself Edited December 23, 2008 by RobSheffield (see edit history)
jevansio
I thought all eye bolts were the same size (as the seat belt points conform to a standard), 7/16's IIRC
Kranz
IIRC industry standard is 7/16 UNF. Not for a 6 point harness I hope?? Edited December 23, 2008 by Kranz Can't type... its a 7/16 lol (see edit history)
pedrosixfour
7/16 UNF is what I have here in my hand Rob
RobSheffield
IIRC industry standard is 7/17 UNF. Not for a 6 point harness I hope?? 7/16? 4 Point 7/16 UNF is what I have here in my hand Rob Bless (sorry!)

RobSheffield
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RACE-RALLY-CAR-HARNESS-EYEBOLT-PLATE-FIA_W0QQitemZ130272206424QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item130272206424&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 Would that work then? Obviously not using the 'plate' but taking the 7/16 eyebolt
suprasurrey
7/16" UNF is definately the correct thread for seat belts, I worked for Britax for five years and fitted many many belts. I have looked at your link to ebay and the bolts look about the same as ones we used. Where are you intending to fit these? Into an existing belt anchoring point or somewhere else? RobSheffield
Yeah the existing belt anchorage point on the driveline tunnel.
jevansio
Yeah the existing belt anchorage point on the driveline tunnel. Rob, you mean the hole on the tunnel where one of the 5 stock seat mounts too?, if so the seat mounts aren't 7/16" UNF.
pedrosixfour
Yeah the existing belt anchorage point on the driveline tunnel. They should work Rob, be sure that you fit a spring washer to the bolt and that the tread isn't so long that it 'bottoms out' in the hole before the washer is properly compressed. Not the seat mounts buddy, the seatbelt mounts. Actually, scrap what I just said I see where you're comin from. The fixing points on the tunnel i think are 10 x 1.25 mm. suprasurrey
That should be fine then. Existing points will have been tested to British standards, so no need for the spreader plates. I would apply some decent thread locking agent (Loctite 638) on assembly just to be on the safe side though;)

RobSheffield
So, anyway, seat bolt thread size
jevansio
Rob you will struggle to find an eyebolt the same thread size as the seat bolt mounts. The seat bolts are the next metric size down (10mm as confirmed by Pedro). I retapped the 10mm hole upto a 7/16 and used a standard eyelet in there Edited December 23, 2008 by jevansio (see edit history)
pedrosixfour
So, anyway, seat bolt thread size Ok, Ok! Fixing point on door side of seats is 7/16" UNF (imperial), Fixing point on trans. tunnel side of seats is 10 x 1.25mm (metric) or it could be 3/8" UNF (imperial) but I doubt it on a Jap car! jevansio
Rob you may find that even though 10mm eyebolts exist, they are not for use in vehicle safety belt applications (the ones I've seen are for yatchs etc). Dunno if it will be a safety issue?

Dunno if it will be a safety issue? It would depend on the carbon grade of the material used, the very minimun required is a grade of 8.8 as is found stamped on the top of most ordinary bolts, the next grade up is 10.9 which is the norm for cap screws
RobSheffield
Im thinking that too actually Jay.... To be fair, the ones on ebay do look rather flimsy so ill pass on them! Tapping to 7/16ths sounds a better bet
