Charlotte
A 'personal details' form for work. Apparently it's for 'data protection'. I'm a bit confused by one of the questions though - 'Sexual Orientation'. So it says you can put 'same sex' 'opposite sex' or 'same sex and opposite sex'. My question is, what does that have to do with your job and working environment? Surely if you like to sleep with men and women that's your concern? Is this now standard proceedure? DamanC
Just put same sex and be done with it
Wez
Leave it blank, regardless of orientation I see that its none of your employeers business.

Animal
Cross out the word "sex" and replace it with "Species", then tick "Other" - that'll get 'em going.

Gaz6002
I guess it depends what you do. It's possible that in some areas you could be seen as deviant if you have "questionable" sexual preferences... but if that was the case then surely you wouldn't write that on any form at work. Maybe they're just trying to find out more about you - It's not standard proceedure for all employers though, I do know that.

What line of work would they deem it important to know who you sleep with though, unless you are a porn star or something. I mean, for example - if you were gay and someone made an accusation about you in the working environment that wasn't true like you cracked on to them, would they use the form against you? Andy-No-Knee
It depends on the employer. All public service jobs now are suposed to represent the 'community' so they need a % of gay/lesbian/black/ethnic minorities to be able to say they are representative. What a load of old ball bags!!! PC gone wild. Tell them it is none of thier bussiness what you do when you are not at work.
ivan
I remember CCL did much the same after they had employed a new HR woman. I don't think it went into that much detail though.
Guest Suprascarlet
We were given forms something like these to fill out some time ago in the NHS. I cannot remember what the fancy title they gave it was but it was in a similar vein and that was one of the questions I refused to answer as a point of principle. As Wez says, "its none of your employeers business".

No but if you swing both ways then it could be seen as deviant behaviour and I think that's the point. I don't know what the powers that be class as "deviant" but that's a possibility. I guess in the forces there are things to consider but I can't think of a specific answer right now. I'd usually use that opportunity to provide a stupid answer for my own amusement. Charlotte
I was thinking of a 'comical' reply but perhaps they will then issue me with my P45.
Thorin
Is it "anonymous"? If not I suspect it could be illegal for them to ask you to fill out this form. I'd refuse completely.
AndrewOW
Just put the standard 'Yes please'. No problem there then. Instant promotion

No, the rest of the form is things like next of kin details and race, colour etc. Just seems like such a random question to me.

Charlotte
Why not ask them why they are needing this information? The one HR lady isn't in the office today. I try to avoid her where possible, she has a tendency of glazing over and going into full on HR mode when asked a question.
JODY T
Why not just answer the question.. Its not like its gonna change anything.. If anyone asked me ide say 'I like girls' from my POV ide say there is only a problem if someone is trying to hide their sexuality... And just before i get jumped on im not saying anyone is hiding anything!

Being self employed for donkeys years it never ceases to amaze me what the employer / employee relationship is like these days.

This is more than likely the answer, as to show they are an equal opportunties employer. Iirc the DPA questionaire can never be used in any form of meeting i.e.disciplinary, recruitment or promotion or more an accurate statement 'it's not meant to' and should only be used for statistical purposes. You should contact your HR department and they are legally bound to advise you how this information is/will be used.
