Did it look like this ? :(

Parasitis Vampiris (common name "Red Spotted Blood Beetle").

"common in native east African countries but thought to be almost eradicated in most other countries in Africa. A parasitic burrowing beetle which prays on large mammals, usually cows and goats but occasionally on humans. The female lays her eggs just under the skin and the burrowing lava emerge from the host within three to four months. Although not known to be fatal, the swelling and blood loss can lead to other infections in hot countries. Also common in Asia, particularly in Japan, sometimes living for many years inside vehicles, and other types of transport"

Google reveals no such beastie!

It's a Harlequin Ladybird. A nasty piece of work but not prone to attacking people.
