michael
I read a brief article in Auto Express recently that suggested companies with more than 10 parking spaces will be liable for an annual charge of £185 per extra space in the future. I looked into it some more tonight and it seems Nottingham are the first to introduce and that the charge will gradually increase to £350. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article2517668.ece Most large companies already struggle for parking due to planning restrictions ensuring they only have enough for a percentage of employees but surely this is insanity? Are companies expected to dig up the car park and plant trees while magically creating good public transport for all their employees as an alternative to paying this? The call centre across from my office already charges it's staff to park in their car park, how long before they all do this to cover the cost of this tax? JustGav
Absolute stupidity... Reading the article, it suggests that companies would pass this on to staff... So basically you would have to pay to go to work... So in order to earn money you need to spend it.. This is crazy... Once thing I don't understand, is how it will work with bigger companies, such as the one I'm at.. They own the land, how can the government charge them for private land? Gaz Walker
Where do they get this shit from? Its just absolute insanity! As if they need to give big companies any more reason not to be based/have offices in the UK. Gaz.
Pete
It would take me three bus trips and 2 hours to get to work. Public transport is not an option. They can f*ck right off.
Alex
Lol Norwich Union must have 1000 spaces in the city centre and another 1000 on the outskirts....but the council wouldn't dare!
tbourner
I'll just have to park in Tesco and walk through.

tbourner
No they're customer spaces, that's different............ isn't it?
Pete
I think Michael was trying to point out the futility of trying to manage such a scheme. How do they know which are staff, and which are customers? It's discriminatory against other businesses if others get away with it.
Wez
Crazy, just remove the parking bay lines and discount as a parking area but everyone leave there car there.

snake
not to worry, they are talking about residents parking permits in bristol which would not even allocate a space in your own street and charge you £30 to do it,just another way to tax the motorist again, dick turpin strikes again. And they pay some tw-t to come up with this.
