diff?????

hi got loud clunking noise from the back wheels think diff is gone....

is there any for sale one here how much are they normally??? is the turbo diff the same as the na model(i have na)

No the turbo Diff is not the same as the NA... And wont fit without modification....

I have a NA Diff though... PMed

Dont assume its a diff problem, clunking could be UJ joints on the prop shaft or on the half shaft.

Usually if a diff goes, its the teeth that wear or a broken tooth and that is more likely to result in a whine than a clumk.

Check the rear prop shaft UJ and then check the half shaft UJ's

USE AN AXLE STAND!

Get a back wheel off the ground, locate the UJ at the end of the prop shaft and rotate the raised wheel.

If you see any movement at the diff nose and no movement at the prop-shaft, the UJ is gone. Same side up, hold the prop shaft UJ with one hand, rotate half shaft with other, check half-shaft UJ.............same check if half shaft rotates, but diff stays still, half-shaft UJ gone.

Replacement UJ's are about £10 each..................a lot cheaper than a diff!

err, there is no U/J on the back of a MKIV propshaft, and the driveshafts use constant velocity joints.

whenever i reverse slowly with small lock the wheels like stop and start and the clunking noise happens

Has it always made this clunking? Sounds like it may have a plate type aftermarket LSD fitted, in which case this is normal for some of them.

Reversing on lock giving a clonk can also be just your subframe bolts needing tightening.
