Depends on how you hook them up, I'm using it wireless and it works fine but got quite thick walls in the house so sometimes the signals a bit crap, thinking of buying those powered sockets so that I can use the powerlines in the house.

All my music, video and pictures stream down without an issue, my reason for getting it was because I download all my viewing material now (lost, heroes and so on) and wanted to watch it in the living room.

Sorry I'm totally ignorant about these things. Do they have a hard disk? Do you connect to it from your PC and send files to it's HD?

I have a DVD player that can play mpeg, DivX, XviD, avi etc but obviously I have to burn stuff to CD or DVD first, I guess I wouldn't need CDs or DVDs if I had this, right?

Can it play all common video formats ?

It's a receiver and picks up all the files that you have stored on your hard disk on your pc, the actual unit has no hard disk at all.

Mines is set up so that it reads my vids, photos and music folders from my main pc

Plays all the formats you listed Jake and yup, it just really saves you burning cd's!

It will also pick up any playlists you create with your music program on the PC, good for me, got around 9000 tracks on the PC so the TV just becomes one big jukebox :D
