Ian C
Name: Solar Sensor Also known as: "the round dome thingy on the top of the dashboard" What is it? It's the round dome on top of the dashboard. It's part of the aircon system and detects strong sunlight coming through the windscreen.

SimonB
hmm and what does it do? Besides detect strong sunlight? Basically it makes the climate control work to a lower temperature to compensate for the fact that the sun through the glass is heating everything (including you) up and causing it to radiate more heat. SimonB
nope, the system does that - the dome is just a light sensor. Well obviously that's the case, but there's no need to be deliberately obtuse and unhelpful about it is there? The questioner was obviously asking what role the sunlight sensor has as part of the function of the system as a whole.

JamesG
According to some website I found, there's a moisture sensor and a solar sensor. In conjunction with each other, the relative humidity on the windscreen is calculated so the air-con operates to reduce fogging. From looking at what the climate control does in the supra, it appears to be able to change the fan speed and change whether the air is on outside or recirculate. mike33
So if its a light sensor could we wire this upto the lights to make them come on automatically when it gets dark like modern modern cars!!!!!!!!!!
Kaan W
So if its a light sensor could we wire this upto the lights to make them come on automatically when it gets dark like modern modern cars!!!!!!!!!! That's not a bad idea actually, I would have thought wiring it to the relay on the same circuit as the switch so you can still switch the lights on manually.
