Mac Srt
Does anyone know the approx power limit of an auto box on a 99 facelift TT ? Car has had a bpu and was just wondering what the box would comfortably handle in stock form Cheers.
Frank Bullitt
You mean the tiptronic box?
Chris Bailey
It's torque you need to worry about, no more than 500lbft and it will remain reliable. Adding a couple of gearbox oil coolers will help prolong the life of the gearbox aswell, as its heat and torque that are the main reasons for auto gearbox failures on supra's. Frank Bullitt
j_jza80 (http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/member.php?20146-j_jza80) is running a single turbo on his tiptronic box set-up via a Syvecs ECU although I am not too sure on his power level. Torque and excessive heat is apparently what causes issues due with weak components inside the box but these can be upgraded. People have been running in excess of 500lbft without issues but if you launch the car hard and abuse the box don't expect it to last long past this level. DavidP offers a Hybrid box, contact him for more info if this interests you. Loads of info here - http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/group.php?groupid=57 AFT Speed/IPT are probably the most experienced autobox rebuilder but are state side. Although if you can source the parts any competent autobox company should be able to do it. If you want to spend big £££'s upgrading the internals you could look at ATF Speed (http://www.atfspeed.com). I am not sure if they use their own Raybestos Blue Plates in their rebuild or if they use the ones from Import Performance Transmissions (http://www.importperformancetrans.com/catalog/toyota-lexus-transmission-rebuild-kit/a340-aw4-rebuild-kit-w-raybestos-blue-plates--1785.html). IPT also offer a valve body mod. If you have some spare time, here are some informative videos to watch. [video=youtube;z4Ix-vt3sps] Edited April 20, 2017 by Frank Bullitt Links added.
