MRX
Got a bit of a problem with knocking/clunking from gearbox/engine area and could use some help with possible causes.... Heavy clunk when pulling away and putting into 2nd Heavy clunk when pulling away and putting into 3rd Not noticeable when selecting other gears In reverse from standstill, lifting clutch and engaging engine there's some heavy clunking Sounds to me like a gearbox/engine mount issue which I know face-lifts are susceptible too. But i'm just concerned it could be a gear box issue? drive shaft issue? Any advice or ideas gratefully received! Thanks Rob

Wez
Have checked the subframe bolts?
MRX
Haven't checked anything yet mate, only had the car a few days but need some suggestions as to what to check first.
Wez
OK, check subframe bolts are torqued up, gearbox mounts, diff mounts and engine mounts. The 6 speeds are very clunky anyways but worth checking
tooquicktostop
I replaced my engine and gearbox mounts after similar issues which took the clunking away Worth mentioning I replaced them with TRD mounts which are so stiff you could hear every gear change and gear, rather annoying , stock would have been better result As mentioned the 6 speed is very agricultural and takes some getting used to, I dislike the box if I am honest, only positive is the power it can take
Scooter
Could be the flywheel? what happens at idle if you move to the bite point....just find it as normal first then try a more rapid lift to it. ie can you make things 'clunk' without actually moving? Drive shafts aren't known problem unlikely to be anything to do with them. just sitting there in neutral get someone to rev the car fairly high, blip it and come of the throttle completely while you watch the engine rock....does it move alot? MRX
Bit of an update. I've changed the gearbox mount and gearbox oil which has smoothed it out a bit. But i'm still getting a clonk when I dip the clutch and it disengage's the drive, almost like the flywheel is loose. Is that even possible or likely? LOGIE
could it possibly be the donut? or even the prop may have a loose bolt. make sure you have checked all the basics (diff included) and easy to get to stuff before you start pulling out the gearbox to see the flywheel.
