red_zebra Posted September 6, 2013 Share Posted September 6, 2013 Hi Guys I have an auto TT, both decats, 1 bar restrictor ring, walbro pump, colder spark plugs, TOMS ECU and an apexi AVCR boost controller, I've read the manual for the boost controller many times and thought I understood what was going on: The boost controller can store two boost settings. Setting A has clearly had some time spent on it by the prior owner as it is set for different rpms, gears, everything, but the basic overall settings are 1.0bar boost and 44% duty. When I drive it, it peaks at 1.2bar boost and goes like hell, I have no complaints there. But I was a bit confused as to why it was reaching 1.2bar when it's set to 1.0bar, so I had a play on setting B as I didn't want to mess up setting A. I set it to 1.0bar again like in setting A and I set the duty to 35%, it peaked at 1.0bar but had an enormous amount of lag and didn't feel very fast. So I gradually increased the duty by 2% increments, each time it felt faster and there was less lag but the peak boost achieved dropped. When I got to 44% duty it felt fairly quick, not much lag but only peaked at 0.8bar. But it felt nothing like as fast as magical setting A. Basically, what I'm asking is, is it safe to just use the setting A which boosts to 1.2bar even though it's set to boost at 1 bar? Any help would be much appreciated. Gpro Posted September 6, 2013 Share Posted September 6, 2013 Boost controller increase boost. If you have a 1bar restrictor ring usually thats the lowest boost you can produce. But on hot days you may boost less and on cold days you will boost more. i.e on mine i would set it to around 38 duty for cold days and 44 for hotter days. and they will both produce 1.2 bar. Regarding to A feeling faster. Does your boost controller have a gain? if the gain on A is around 20 and on B is 0 then you will feel more lag Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
red_zebra Posted September 7, 2013 Author Share Posted September 7, 2013 That makes sense but if the unit is reading 0.8bar on setting B does that mean it's reading inaccurately? I didn't notice a gain option on the menus and I've just been back through the manual and there's no mention of a gain. It's quite strange because the setting A perfectly hits 1.2bar as if it's supposed to so I'm inclined to leave it be, but I'm also worried about it overshooting the target boost. Nic Posted September 7, 2013 Share Posted September 7, 2013 The AVCR has a Self Learning Mode, if you enter the target boost level, the boost controller will work out the optimum duty settings. Try setting it up like this on setting B and see how you get on. Setting B - Boost/Duty Boost: 1.2kg/cm2 Duty: this will self learn, after learning it'll show * * * % Setting B - NE-Point - try these settings, you may need to play around with the settings if you're getting over boost at certain rpms. Ne1 1500rpm Ne2 2000rpm Ne3 2500rpm Ne4 3000rpm Ne5 3500rpm Ne6 4500rpm Ne7 5500rpm Ne8 6500rpm Setting B - F/B Speed - set all to 9 (this is the fastest feedback setting) Setting B - Learn Gear - set all to O Setting B - Start Duty - set all to 0% (this will enable the Duty self learning mode) etc. - Car Select - Cyl: 6, Spd: 4, Thr: up arrow etc. - Sensor Sel - Set to Relative 1 etc. - Gear Judge - you'll need a passenger to help with this, it explains in the manual the setup process. etc. - Graph Scale Bs: 2.0kg/cm2 Ne: 8000rpm Sp: 300km/h Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
