DodgyRog
Well it's Insurance time again, so my renewal comes through at the normal over inflated price, just over £500 this year. So the normal ring around for quotes starts and I get the cost down to £398 Inc lost keys, no claims protection, like for like, £250 excess etc Pretty much every specialist I spoke to under cut Sky by a large amount I have been with Sky since I got the Supra about 5 years ago, so left them until last. I called them and ended up having to ask for a call back through the online system for the next day. Well no biggy and I get a call the next day and I have to ask if he can call me back as I am unloading the lorry with a customer and can't really run through the whole process of getting a new quote, but explain I have had several quotes well below the renewal price. I get a response I really didn't expect from a company that have had my trade and money for a long time, let alone the fact they are supposed to be the club insurance The guy says well I guess I will have to give you another call later, this was said with an attitude, as if I was realy putting him out, this was on Monday and due to me being with a customer and not really concentrating 100% I didn't actually say anything about his attitude at the time Anyway we get to today and still no call back, so due to the attitude I received I decided to call them today and ask them to make sure my insurance is not renewed automatically, I think I spoke to the same guy, but I could be wrong, he never questioen why or anything, just asked for my postcode and name to confirm the account and said okay that's done. Just find it totally amazing and not what I expect from any company viaing for my business, let alone someone I have been with for several years The other thing which annoys me with them while I am having a whine about Sky, is the fact they over inflate renewal prices and expect us to do all the running around to get a lower price, but then offer to price match. As the club Insurer are we not supposed to get a discount, so surely we should get a price match plus club discount on top Well anyway I won't be using Sky Insurance anymore For those that want to know APlan Thatcham gave me the lowest quote with Livingstons very close behind. All 3 companies I mentioned are offering pretty much the same policy from the same Underwriter, just Sky wanted over £100 more for it
Thorin
erm, have you thought that perhaps Sky simply couldn't offer you a better price than quoted. I personally can't believe your insurance is so low, even at £500! I need to move to a nicer area obviously.
Scott
They have never managed to get anywhere near the quotes that I get elsewhere. I'm also noticing more and more of the "Sky" posts appearing. Shame really as I think they used to be quite well thought of on here.

To be honest, last years renewal quote rubbed me up the wrong way, from memory it was £250 more than I ended up paying, but up until then I had been very happy with there service This year they have just not seemed interested at all

Suprachargedtt
i know what you mean about over charging, ive just renewed with sky, i told them i had cheaper quotes and they seemed to get it down by over £100 without that much hassle, i do this every year with them, id ask for Cassie, she normally manages to satisfy me... Nodalmighty
I had similar issues and found the problem was the word "GUY". You need to be speaking to a "GAL", Jody is her name, never had a problem since

Paul R
Been with them for about 5 years until this latest renewal. Thought the womans attitude stank, they tried to rip me off with a quote of £600! I'm paying 293 now on a classic policy!
Thorin
I'm wondering how many people are actually insured for a mkIII, or just not insured properly. £293 is very low.... unless you only do 4 miles a year?

I was 420 on my last renewal with all mods declared. I'm sure Dunk is around £200. Havard is similar too. You need to shop around

It's a classic policy limited to 4k miles a year. Also the car has to be garaged between 10pm and 6am or something like that when I'm at home. DodgyRog
Erm, but you did on the first call, which would have been noted on your account I expect... Yeah, but all I said was I had lower quotes, no figure was mentioned and they never even tried to requote because he said he needs to run through the details again and I didn't have the time at that point i know what you mean about over charging, ive just renewed with sky, i told them i had cheaper quotes and they seemed to get it down by over £100 without that much hassle, i do this every year with them, id ask for Cassie, she normally manages to satisfy me... Yeah this seems to be there normal practise now, high renewal, you ring round and get a lower quote and they offer to match it I'm wondering how many people are actually insured for a mkIII, or just not insured properly. £293 is very low.... unless you only do 4 miles a year? Definately a Mkiv Supra and always has been My insurance has actually dropped slightly this year, I think the most I have ever paid is around £430 The £398 is for unlimited mileage, includes European (Dragonball hopefully next year) travel for 4 weeks, £250 excess, £50 windscreen, Like for like all mods declared including the extensive bodywork and £2000 wheels, lost keys cover upto £200, no claims protection and legal cover, also the wife is on the policy and I am cover for other peoples cars 3rd party Fire + Theft, parked on drive over night and used for daily commute The joys of living is sunny Devon I guess Edited August 11, 2011 by DodgyRog (see edit history)
imi
I was with SKY for a number of years too (4 or 5). My only reason for paying over the odds in comparison year after year was for agreed value. When it came to renewing my insurance recently the sky agent on the phone said that they hadn't done agreed value for a few years and the only time my policy actually had it was the 1st year I was with them, effectively they had mis-sold me insurance for a number of years after that. When I confronted Guy about this, effectively his attitude was quite patronising and fairly unacceptable. I appreciate that people make mistakes and sometimes its a case of pure incompetence. In their case it could be the latter else they are simply thieves. To have them as a club insurer is very unfortunate. I don't see them having my business ever again and certainly wont be recommending them to anyone else, member or not.
Blackie
I managed to knock them down about £200 from the price they quoted Rog, I think it depends on who you get to speak to on the day tbh. I got the TT insured with all mods declaired for £
mr lover
I stopped using them years ago, very poor service and prices. Do not even bother getting them to quote

I got the TT insured with all mods declaired for £520 I am fairly sure they would of matched the £398 I have got from APlan Thatham, but I never got to find out due to the attitude I got on the phone for asking for a call back I just think that matching someone elses offer is a cop out, all they are doing is sitting back and waiting for me to do all the leg work and then phone them because they are the club insurer, they are supposed to offer members of this forum a discount for being the club insurer, not just match the lowest quote I get from elsewhere

Homer
I had some issues with Sky's renewal this year, it seems their frontline team just cannot offer the same prices/service that the back office staff can. I got no where until I spoke to a very helpful lady called Cassie, within a day the quote came down from £567 to £410, matching the offer from LWIB. I think as with all insurance companies you just need to persevere, but agree, it's not an good situation for those that just want to ruing up and get a best quote. As I understand it Sky have some issues with the offers from their key insurance company, which should be sorted out in the coming weeks. It does not excuse poor phone customer service though... Also, as mentioned previously there is a lot more to having a club insurer than just the name for club members, we get free insurance for key events like suprapod, which other companies don't offer. imi
we get free insurance for key events like suprapod, which other companies don't offer. Who is We, the club or the people insured through SKY. I am no longer with SKY, if I was coming over to Suprapod would my car not be insured through my insurance company? I'm assuming this only applies to the cars that are going to be on track, right. The club. It covers us for things like the event being rained off, i.e. anyone who has pre-paid gets a refund if the drag racing doesn't take place (There are some T&C's, but the club would never be able to afford to purchase this insurance independantly)

Can i ask what else they've done. Seems like a growing number of members aren't getting either very good service or very competive quotes, me included.
