The one about the 4 x 2 is complete balls. On sawn timber, a piece of 4 x 2 will measure pretty much 4" x 2" give or take a couple of mil. If it's planed timber then you lose about a quarter of an inch all round.

Burple and Kurple are both genuine words. Not sure on the spelling though.
