Mass production

You need to say what you want mass producing. Steel automotive panels? Plastic Chrismas trees? Plaster garden gnomes? Cast alloy wheels? Brake kits? See where I am going.... ? :) There are specialists for most types of mass production, forgers, casting makers, pattern makers, CNC machinists, blow moulders, die casting specialists, blah blah.

I mean, how do you find companies that mass produce things... I expect I'm missing something obvious as usual though. :blonde:

Can you explain what 'things'?

Trade shows or trade magazines are usually the best place to find manufacturers.

Sorry I'm not being very useful here. It's more of a theoretical question. It could be anything. Jesus what am I going on about. For argument sake, say I want to make loads of... belts. Is it as simple as looking at companies that produce clothing items? or will companies specialise more, ie. just in belts. Or leather goods? (oo err)

Think there's something that your not telling us Rosie - but if you have had a great idea, I don't blame you.

As has been said above, I'm sure it depends on exactly what you want mass producing.

If it's "belts" I would google for belt manufacturers and start blasting e-mails all over the place, if it for a "new idea" I'd give as little information as possible away and just see what comes back.

My latest super secret get rich quick idea has been taken from my young grandson's latest item (he's just over a year old).

It's a cross between the "Henry" vacuum cleaner marketing idea(the red one that has a face on and is sold in millions) and a potty.

My potty will have a face on complete with spectacles and I'm going to name it "Harry".

A "Harry Potty"

What do ya think.... :)

If it also contains the vaccuum part - and you can just hook the hose up and "suck" it all out, then you're probably onto a winner. No more emptying the potty.

Wouldn't fancy cleaning the filter out when it had to be done though! Eeewwwww! :D

Back on topic Rosie: I would imagine you'd need to get the component parts mass-produced separately, then perhaps employ people (family/friends/yourself in the early days) to assemble said components. All in my opinion, and I have no real experience of mass-producing anything...

Taking your example of belts, you'd probably need to get the buckles stamped by a metal-working company according to a template you supply. You'd then need to get strips of leather from a leather supplier, and then assemble. You might need to get the buckle notches riveted by another specialist.

Hmm, sounds like a lot of companies involved. Someone more knowedgable than me will almost certainly be along soon...

If its anything that requires people power, clothing for example then the far east would be a good place to start looking for a company.

If you look at a lot of companies websites particularly the metal industries they will often quote the capacities they work to.
