TonyP Posted July 14, 2008 Share Posted July 14, 2008 After 18 months of trouble free motoring my n/a supe let me down yesterday for the first time. There was no warning, I'd just filled it up and it was driving fine. Stopped at some light and all of a sudden it started idling badly (dropping to 3-400 revs and nearly stalling). Lights changed to green, put my foot on the throttle 2000rpm gave about 5mph just managed to get round the corner and park up. Anyway, called the AA out (I'm afraid my knowledge of the workings of the internal combustion engine is pitiful). After messing about for a few minutes (revving the engine, lots of black smoke out of the back) he says that it's overfuelling, takes the air filter off, and I was able to drive it a couple of miles to my local garage. They haven't had a chance to have a good look at it yet. Their only guess at the moment is that maybe the cat has disintegrated and is causing a blockage but they're going to plug it in to the diagnostic thingy tomorrow. I did a search on here and lots of related threads show up, but as with this one they all seem to end abruptly with no resolve! Very strange!?!? They've had it in for a week tried two different diagnostic machines and even took it up the road to another garage and they couldn't read any codes. All they've done, apparently, is reset the ecu and now it's running fine again. They must have spent a fair bit of time on it but only charged me £30.
