Handbrake adjustment

Simple question: Where is the handbrake adjustment on a Supra? I need to slacken mine off a bit on the driver's side.

I do have all the service stuff on JPGs but it would save me a load of browsing if someone could tell me how to get at it.

TIA.

Remove a rear wheel, and look through one of the holes in the handbrake-drum section of the brake disk. You need to turn the disk around to get to the adjustment cog, (possibly easier to remove the entire disk at first, so that you know where you're aiming for).

The adjustment is easy with a torch and a strong flat headed screwdriver.

The cable can be adjusted at the hand break lever end if you remove the surround, but if you want to adjust one side or the other then if you take off the wheel you see there's 4 big holes in the disc around the centre, three of these are blocked but one isn't (although it may have a rubber cover over it). Rotate the break disc so this hole is at the bottom and if you look in you'll be able to see the adjuster.

Ok...

Despite today being the only day of my whole holiday that it decides to rain, I got my spanners out and did this job today. I used my own method for adjusting it as follows:

1) Remove wheel.

2) Remove (swivel out of the way) brake caliper.

3) Release handbrake, car in neutral.

4) Remove plug and tighten adjuster until the hub locks.

5) Slacken off adjuster by one notch.

6) Apply handbrake three notches and check hub locks.

7) Release handbrake and check that hub rotates freely and without any "dragging" noise.

8) Repeat steps 5 to 7 until all is fine and dandy.

I reckon I had slackened off the adjuster by about 8 nothces by the time I was happy. By pure conincidnce this is the same figure that the service book (which I have since read) says it should be.

However....

The hub still gets hot after a drive. Now this is the ONLY reasn that I suspected the brake might be binding on. I took the car for a hoon and afterwards the passenger side hub was pretty warm, but you could put your hand on it. The driver's side one, however, was too hot to touch for very long.

When my caliper stuck the wheel got so hot that there was no way you could touch it, the heat started to soak into the wheel itself and I could smell the heat as soon as I got out of the car. The handbrake does not exhibit any of these symptoms.

So now I'm wondering whether I actually have a problem at all?

I'd be appreciative if next time you have a blast, when you get out just touch your handbrake hubs and post up how hot they feel.

TIA.

I am, sure I have read ( somewhere) that you slacken off by7 to8 notches, anything less and the hand brake will be very tight.

EDIT( DOH read thread fully - hand book)

Don’t touch the cable unless you are sure it has stretched. Always start with the drums first
