Polemarch
Somebody asked me ages ago if it was possible to convert a GZ coupe to an aerotop? If you had access to an aerotop panel is there any company capable (and brave enough) to cut into the soop and make it capable of accepting an aerotop panel? I know this is prob 90% impossible but let me know! :-)
RobSheffield
it is impossible and silly stop it!
hob
I think the outcome was a very very weak chassis, since I belive aero's have stronger bracing to avoid chassis flex etc..
Polemarch
Do they definitely have stronger bracing? This is obviously all hyperthetical but interesting nontheless! :-)

LeeT
It has been done before by a mate of Ibrars. Also i believe Michel Lane is looking into having this done too
AndrewOW
Yes the aerotop has extra strong pillars and support bars to prevent body flex. It does make them slightly heavier, but mine feels no different with the roof on or off. Not that I drive like a maniac, but its good to know if I have a spin thru the twisties once in a while. Chris Wilson
Anything is possible if you throw enough time and money at it. There are LOTS of body shops more than capable of doing it (properly...). It would, however, be financial suicide, and just not worth considering.

Ray
Will a roll cage hold it together if welded properly? I reckon an aerotop with roll cage would look cool!

Ray
Good question! Now lets see who is daring enough to answer it
Syed Shah
A properly welded-in roll cage stiffens the car up and would improve a converted car greatly (better thn the minor changes made by Toyota).
mathew
wouldnt it be easier to do it the other way around as in buy an aero and turbocharge it???
Ruff_Rider
wouldnt it be easier to do it the other way around as in buy an aero and turbocharge it??? I think the idea is to have a manual aerotop, as all the jap ones are all auto, none sold in uk, but available in parts of Europe, so i'm told. Ruff_Rider
I saw another thread just like this one and it said that even the door cards are thicker on the aerotop models for extra strength. Is this true?
Ruff_Rider
Oh, and someone else told me that doorcards are £1000 to replace, not sure if that was each or pair, but still quite expensive.

Is this true? What, thicker cardboard Toyota must have been desperate if they went to that extreme

Is that the thick ones or standard thin ones? Anyone who considers paying £1000 a pair for door cards definitely needs their head examining In fact anyone who believes that thicker door cards will strengthen the car.............................
