Paul R
Hi, I have just installed TRL FCD into my car and I started her up but the idle is going up and down and if you put your foot on the accelerator and let it off, then it stalls. Whats happened? Is this a result of resetting the ecu when I unplugged the battery? will it go back to normal? Paul.
Wipeout
Sounds like it, take it for a run so the ecu can re-learn its fueling.
Paul R
Seems worse than that. Just went for a gentle run around and it's popping a bit....still stalling. crap! I'll take the FCD out for now. Paul.
Wipeout
When the battery is disconnected for that long the ecu will definitely reset, it takes a few miles before it's back to normal, mine did drive ok but if you stopped at a junction it would want to stall, at least for the first mile or so, but after that its fine, if you are in any doubt then pop it out, and start it up and see if it's any better. Do you get any lights on the FCC (You shouldn't see any at idle, only when it's activated) HTH
Paul R
Hi, I've taken it out and wired everything back up and it's normal again. Must be a faulty FCD I suppose! bugger! Paul.

Out of the dozens of FCD I have have fitted none have been faulty, Pete makes a damned fine product. the old versions could be *user* damaged by pulling the wires going into it hard, they then detached form the push on PCB connectors. the latest tiny ones have this potential for user error addressed. Are you sure you wired it up right? Blue to ecu, green to wire from MAP sensor, in black / yellow striped lead to ecu? Proper power feed and earth to it? Sounds like no power to it to me... Jake
Paul, I had exactly the same problem with mine. It turned out to be caused by a bad earth connection, totally my own fault. As Chris said, it's very unlikely to be a faulty unit if it's a TRL one.

I checked and double checked! I even got the volt meter out and checked the +12v. everything looked OK Paul.
Jake
Have you got the black earth wire from the FCD connected to the ECU loom? My problems were fixed when I disconnected that wire and earthed it directly to the front stud and nut that secures the ecu to the floor. It's worth a shot mate before you go replacing the FCD. Mine looked like it was making a good connection to the loom but it obviously wasn't.
Willson
Is it a new style one ? I did what Chris mentioned and pulled the cable from the pcb accidently. If you can take the back off and check, its probly worth a look. The symptoms sounds exactly the same, though I am sure mine threw an error code aswell. MAP of MAF sensor I think.
