salvatore
Hi guys, Ordered a new auto gearknob from Toyota recently as my old one's a bit tatty. Not really into paying them to spend hours trying to replace it as they say they've never done one before. Anyone replaced one of these sucessfully? BTW, i've already done a search and found no useful threads..
TrickTT
Slide fown the plastic trim directly under the leather and you'll see 2 screws, one front, one back. Undo them and the gearknob should lift up. Thats the easy bit - the wire for the o/d button wuns through the centre of the shift plate to a plug at the front. Remove the surround and you'll see 4 screws, you'll need to undo them and remove the bulb from its holder. follow the wires back from the bulb and you'll see they go over a clip. unhook it and the whole lot should lift up. Follow the wires from the o/d off switch to the plug at the front and unplug it. The plug right next to this is for the manu button, unplug that too. Feed the wire for the o/d light through the shit mechanism until it comes out - very tight, but it should fit ( think there is a couple of cable ties as well), then route the new wire back the same way and reinstall. When i changed mine i took the whole centre console and armrest off too - gives you a bit more room to work. Its a very fiddly job - have fun.
