Jim_1979
Who all does the N/A to TT conversions here guys? I've just sold my TT. Looking to buy a cheap n/a manual and put a TT lump in it. So yeah... who all does it on here and also rough price? Am I right in thinking about £2500 ish?
marcAB10
Keron or Jezz is your best bet.
JamieP
So you sell a bpu TT for £4500, you then look at buying a cheap na for 2k and spending 2.5k on a TT conversion, i dont get it?
Jim_1979
lmao... It's just a thought at the moment. This way I then have a manual TT. With room to go BPU in the future. I didn't have the expendable cash to go for a 6speed conversion with the TT.

Rayman
what about if the gearbox fails?
miko_supra
what about if the gearbox fails? get another w58 for £200 or fit an r154 box which is around £600 for all the bits needed and a good alternative to the getrag 6 spd
Rayman
I guess if you want to keep changing gearboxes, how do you now how long it will last, seems false economy to me.
heartworm
I guess if you want to keep changing gearboxes, how do you now how long it will last, seems false economy to me. There are quite a lot of people on the forum running TT engines on a speed without any issues, up to BPU power levels
Rayman
Youve read a few fail tho too?
heartworm
Youve read a few fail tho too? Its not all that common, they seem pretty reliable at it, its more the clutch that goes if its not uprated. I wont be worried about mine unless I upgrade the power, which I can't see happening soon Edited October 9, 2008 by heartworm (see edit history)
Rayman
I guess if you are doing the work yourself its not much of a big deal, not something i would consider tho. I can understand peple converting a car that theyv had for a while instead of selling it and buying a TT. But buying a NA to convert to a TT and leave the 5 spd in there imo seems a lot of potential hassle you know if things dont go smoothly, im sure he's thought about that tho, and if it all goes ok you can make a saving but then when you come to sell who knows? JamieP
Seems false economy to me, it will always be a NA-TT so worth less and you would need a new diff as i cant see the na open diff being any good.
tooquicktostop
I would just look for a cheap TT6, they are out there if you look hard enough

JODY T
What would be good would be a TT Engine running a w58 with a Auto TT LSD.. Ratios would be lovely for acceleration...

Some n/a's come with an LSD- all SZR's and some SZ's...But i do agree that i cannot see the point in buying an n/a to go straight to n/a-tt in it. The only time this is worth while is when you can't be arsed selling your car for penuts and you have it the way you want. You will also probably know nothing about the TT engine that you are putting into your car and its history
Jim_1979
From my point of view... If I can't find a TT6 speed for 4.5k , then it's the best next option. I didn't have the 2.5K for the auto to manual conversion on my car.
IDO
The only time this is worth while is when you can't be arsed selling your car for penuts and you have it the way you want. That the only reason i am doing a na/tt conversion on mine.. I've had a good look around and there is some tt for good low prices, I don't think its worth selling a tt to buy a na just to TT it, just for the time and stress of selling a car at the moment.. I've spent a lot on my N/A over the years, yes i know maybe a silly idea in hindsight.. but got it as standard and over the years spent probably far to much on it, i just cant bare to see what price mine would go for now and i have it how i want it! so the conversion is the way i am going..
