tbourner Posted August 3, 2006 Share Posted August 3, 2006 Anyone know of any rescue centers or anything for kittens in and around Portsmouth area? Don't mind travelling a bit but not too far. Ideally a good one that vaccinates etc. before selling them to people. Don't mind paying for them really as long as it's not loads of money. I'm sure I read a site a few months back about having an interview with them, and they come and visit your home to make sure it's suitable before letting you have their cats! I was thinking of getting kittens from a rescue place when i move out my flat. basically the cat got ill and first 2 days was a little ill but you know thought it would get better and cat was just quiet. 3rd day it got iller overnight so took the cat to the vet. It turned out it had bowl cancer, because the cat was from a rescue home, they got taken to court for mistreatment of an animal. My mum was found not guilty. As it wasnt originally her cat (her partners) but they found him guilty of cruelty. All because he took the cat to the vet because it became much worse over night. We've been looking at private breeders now anyway, seen some perfect kittens a black female and silver tabby male (exactly what we wanted!) the pair for £80. 9 months old. Kittyclaws Posted August 4, 2006 Share Posted August 4, 2006 There is a cat rescue centre in Sidlesham, which is on the way to Selsey, we got both of our cats from there, you have to pay the snip fees up front, as too many cats have kittens etc, and a small donation to the running of the centre, they will contact you to arrnage to take cat back for op etc, boht our cats are wonderful. not had any problems with them, aprt from Toffe tearing apart mice and any other small animal/bird, and Apple bringin in frogs or moths (big ones the size of small birds). ref earlier post about the cat with cancer. how long did she have the cat from the centre before it started to go downhill, and i can't understand why , she was taken to court because the cat was from a resue centre, ie would it have been any different if she had got the cat in a private sale Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I recently got two little kittens (no so little anymore ...). Here's what's adding up; [+] First vaccinations at 9 weeks £25 each [+] Second vaccinations at 12 weeks £25 each [+] Chipping (due at 6 months) £15 each [+] Neutering (due at 6 months) £40 each [+] Insurance is with E&L at £6 each per month (gold level), although I was quoted up to £15 each per month by some people. And MoreThan can fsck right off, as they called me even though I checked the 'don't ever contact me' box on their website. And then there's monthly flea drops (Frontline is recommended), worming tablets (prescription strength from the vets). Don't forget cat food (which for kitten milk, dry, and wet food is around £5 a week) Other things which can add up, but are one time hits; [+] Feeding bowls £3 each (and one for water) [+] Cat bed (never used anymore as they use mine instead) £10 + [+] Scratching post (vital!!) about £10 + [+] Pet carrier £25 + [+] Collars. £Dunno - haven't bought any yet ... And toys. After careful testing and refinement I've discovered that the best cat toys are string, toilet roll centres, and scrunched up paper balls - anything else loses it's novelty quickly. One of our cats is a house cat just make sure you always play with it and show it loads of attention. Then it doesn't really bother with the outside world.
