Chase
Right, researching the RLTC install and spotted some threads about how to disable the stock TC, still unclear on it please help: 1. If the TRAC fuse is removed on a j-spec AUTO does it force the box to do manu style jerky changes? 2. Should I leave the fuse in and get a butterfly removal kit? 3. A few people have mentioned they removed the stock TC ECU and have mounted the RLTC main unit in it's place. If I do this will if cause the same problems as removing the TRAC fuse? Finally, where I can get some more of the white plastic connector blocks that came with the RLTC. Would Maplin do something like this? Cheers. Steve W
I've not done it yet (INTEND to though !) but been told opposite ! ! Removing the fuse disables the TRAC but NOT the gearchange smoothing (just get the flashing TRAC OFF light:mad: ) Removing the butterfly obviously WILL affect the changes as it uses the butterfly to smooth them ! ! no flap = no smoothing ! ! I THINK ?
Guest Martin F
I'm not 100% on whether the TRAC ecu does close the butterfly on auto shifts. I remember this being discussed at length on the american list and i can't remember their conclusion. The reason for thinking that it doesn't is that if you have a BOV on an auto you don't hear it when the box shifts only when you close the throttle plate by moving your foot. The trac and main ECU defenitely pull timing when it shifts. I'm not sure where you can get the white connectors from but i doubt Maplin, more likely RS. I do have a spare set here if you really get stuck.
B3any
I've installed the RLTC and left the normal TC as is, just have to make sure i turn it off for the RLTC to work.
Roy
done the same as B3ANY and have had no adverse problems as yet - despite giving it some stick.....
B3any
I've just been playing on 20% slip round a roundabout, you gotta be careful, coz it works great but it will let go eventually, NEED to put that updated DAT file in ASAP i think. Matt Harwood
When I first fitted RLTC, I did remove the trac butterfly, (Well, Chris W did it actually - Thanks CW), but I didn't like how the autobox performed afterwards. The butterfly does close slightly during normal gearchanges to smooth them out. At WOT, without the butterfly, the gearshifts are harsh to say the least. I've now gone back to having the tc butterfly and manually switch it off
Chase
OK, think I'll leave the stock TC as is then and just turn it off when I get in the car. Is there any (easy) way of setting it off by default, I assume for safety reasons there aint
Matt Harwood
Nope... It defaults to on.. UNLESS, someone can make up a device that will give out a negative pulse a few seconds after being energised.... Pete Betts???!!!
