mikeyb10supra
Ha Ha very wise........running on an empty task can screw things up.....I used to have a 205Gti with Twin 45 Webber Carburettors and let that run on empty all the time and it ended up blocking 2 jets as it was pulling all the S*it from the bottom of the tank through my carbs!! Back to your point though.....would'nt of though so.......I've slipped mine in neutral a few times by mistake when racing in "manu" mode
JamesG
i was low on fuel the other day and just made the pumps so was wondering if i put it in nutral to drop the reves i would save fuel. i normaly never lrt it get that low I might be wrong about this, but I think if you're in gear then the engine is forceably kept going as the car is moving - so no fuel is required. But if you put it into neutral then fuel will be used to stop the engine from stalling.
b_have
Correct James, the fuel is cut on the overrun and kicks back in at around 1000 rpm.
The Hornet
You should not coast / put an auto in neutral as it will nacker the torque converter, which is why they shouldn't be towed as well
geoffvalenti
You should not coast / put an auto in neutral as it will nacker the torque converter, which is why they shouldn't be towed as well Just to try and clear this one up. You CAN coast in neutral with the engine running and it shouldn't do any harm. Why you'd want to is beyond me, but that's beside the point. The reason that you shouldn't tow the car is that the lubrication for the gearbox is provided by the gearbox oil pump, driven by the torque converter. No engine running equals no lubrication. Obviously if the engine runs, its unlikely you'll be towing the thing You won't damage the torque converter by towing, but you will damage the gearbox. You can't bump or tow start auto Supras because there's no rear pump on the gearbox. So you won't be putting any load on the TC.
