fri3ndly
Well after I finally managed to get the door open (after the amount of frost that had stuck it shut), I turned the ignition and just got a click noise.... After several attempts to start it I decided to go and get a hair dryer and point it in my engine to warm it up a bit. Turns out that pointing it at the starter motor did the trick and it finally worked after 10 mins heating.... Now my question.....is that normal!? I have had this happen a few times not on the supra though, The best way i find is to put the car in second with your foot ready on the clutch and get someone to rock the car forwards and backwards while you turn the key. Its always worked for me straight away its just the starter motor playing up and will probably never happen again, the hair dryer thing might of just been luck but hey atleast it started:)

fri3ndly
Yeh, only problem with an auto ;-) Well I guess it must have just been so cold it froze the motor or something...
R Black
I thought starter motors did this when their bushings wear out, so they wont turn if they stop at a worn part, so that in rocking the car in gear this moves the starter to an unworn part? Heating it probably just expanded everything making it contact again.
Rob
Aye, single click generally means starter motor contacts need replacing. There is a comprehensive guide on here.
stevie_b
Does this sound familiar? : http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=92698 or http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=78173 I reckon it could be the starter motor contacts. You can refurb them without buying a whole new motor. I think there's a howto in the FAQ section.

miko_supra
when was the last time your battery was replaced? might be worth checking that as they dont like the cold weather
Guest dangerousandy
I don't believe it - My supra has started doing this too!!! GRRR! but I have noticed that my battery terminals are quite loose on the new (varta) battery I have fitted even though the nuts are as tight as they can go. Sometimes she starts fine, other times I can be there for 15mins trying to get the damm thing to go. I will be seeing to the battery terminals to see if that makes a difference. Not happy!
