How to build (reinforce) 5-speed gearbox up?

The one I'd have said was the best bet is this one:

'RPS Max Clutch with Street Disc for 1993-98 Supra Non-Turbo

Part # RP MS-22522-ST

This package includes the RPS Max Pressure Plate and the RPS Street Disc. It is a full face organic disc that is extremely slippable and the most friendly disc you could ever put in your Supra.

This clutch kit can hold up to 440 foot pounds of torque & is 60% stiffer than stock. This clutch is the most streetable clutch you can buy and will hold 400+ RWHP.

MSRP $520.51

Your Price $442.43

for the R154 you need a bellhousing (i think), the gearbox itself(possible gamble on condition re age/abuse) and then have it all fitted, probably need a new uprated clutch and flywheel?

If clutch and flywheel needed -guess at say £1000 ( no idea really!)

It may sound a crazy idea but an option may be to buy a 6 speed SZ-R (£5-6K) take it and your car to Jez and have them swap the 6 speed and 5 speed over (flywheels bolts and a few other bits only required?) and then you sell the (now) 5 speed car on.

There's one on the trader now at £5995.........

Jez x2 transmission swaps (possible prop and lsd diff also?) £1000 (again a guess)

Sell car for possibly the same? or maybe take a slight loss. However the donor car in the current case has nice volks, which fit over uk brakes. If you happened to like these you could swap these over before sale and save yourself a fair few quid.

Even if the car was sold at a loss and Jez bill was higher at say £1500 you would now have a 6 speed getrag that you know has only ever done 60K miles in a 220bhp NA, and not a R154 which will most likely have an untraceble history......

lots of hassle i spose!

could just check it out and buy it if its all good and then sell yours, and then own and mod the 6 speed 96 NA.........it won't be an 02 reg but it will be better equiped to NA-T and half the price of a Facelift manual TT...........

Good post (and idea) but it is too much hassle for me. :)

I'm going to Poland in September so i will try to find cheap V160 in Germany.

Next year i will move to south England so i will have more possibility. I will try to not break my gearbox after N/A-T conversion.

Have a word with DaveH on the Supraforums. He has run way over 600rwhp on the 5 speed manual box with a stage 4 clutchmaster clutch.

His quote below:

"So far so good.....

We went out and did some tonite today, man the 5-speed rocks for tuning! The big turbo definitely needed tuning, as it went way lean on top compared to the PT72 on the same tune. All was good, a/f in the mid 11's until around 6200 and then the a/f slowly went lean until near redline it was 13:1!!! If I would have heard my buddy yell I definitely would have let off the throttle.... thx to race gas for not letting the motor blow.

We added a ton of fuel up top and then did some fine tuning at base boost of 23 psi. Then we turned the boost up incrementally and tuned each boost level until we were up to 30 psi. The car hauls butt at upper boost levels. The GT42 really wakes up at high boost.

disclaimer: All tuning was done by trained professionals on a closed course... I was looking through the datalogs and the car goes from 80 to 130 mph in almost exactly 3 seconds"
