Thorin
I posted this before, but it's an excellent article IMO. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/21/AR2006092101513_pf.html
martin_a
LOL - you are funny. EDIT - HOLD ON, I will highlight the bits that made me chuckle, anyways, I am out of here. You guys carry on believing what you want. CIAO That told me. Your rebuttal has made me reconsider my entire outlook. How can i compete with an argument like "You are funny" ? I'll give you your point on the media, they do give time to these people but they make time for themselves. See the heckling they gave John Reid a month or so ago. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5362052.stm But blaming the Police? not really, can't do a thing or it is 'anti muslim'. People like this are put in power by their followers and it is other muslims who must deal with this. It took years to get Hamza out of one of the biggest mosques in london. Even stood outside he had 300 + people turning up the hear him spout his bile. Nothing is done because people choose to do nothing. from same BBC story Following the speech, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said it was "extraordinarily difficult" to clamp down on Islamic extremism without offending large groups of Muslims. What do you think should be done? m.
michael
its the POLICE that needs to take action as in most cases they either support / propagate terrorism so a fairly easy case to solve... The police have no resource because they are too busy telling interested white Christians to go away so that they can recruit more female Muslims who don't want to be in the police
JohnA
... I pity them in the same way as I pity the 2.1 billion Christians,... ..not forgetting that there are several flavours of Christians, results of schisms and internal wars, all because of minute and trivial interpretations of the Holy Books (themselves re-written, re-translated and re-interpreted numerous times through the ages) Didn't the Protestands tear away from the Catholics, who tore away from the Orthodox Christians? Heretics, the lot of them! In the meantime, nobody wants to admit (God forbid!) that religion is used as a front to give legitimacy to violent redistributions of wealth. Max Headroom
I can't believe that you think that's fine! The covering of bosoms is highly unacceptable in my opinion. I wouldn't be shocked if some of the more mentally challeged BNP types started wearing KKK hoods because "if they can cover up then so can we" Yes I do think its fine, to cover one's bosom or breast, as a sign of modesty. It is covering of the face which is leaning towards a more fundamentalist view, which I see is not supported by the muslim members on this forum, that I find myself at odds with and I think you will find we share the same view. tbourner
Every religion wants other people to agree with it, obviously, but the Muslim faith seems the strongest. I bet that if there was a switch that when flicked it would cause the entire population of Earth to become Muslim (or die I suppose), then ANY Muslim deep down would gladly flick the switch. They may say it's not true but they're hardly going to admit openly to wanting everyone non-muslim to convert or die are they! that would make working life difficult!! Cable
its the POLICE that needs to take action as in most cases they either support / propagate terrorism so a fairly easy case to solve... the police are too busy having to reassign muslim coppers who don't want to stand guard around the Israeli embassy whilst the army are having to prosecute soldiers who refuse to go to Iraq. If you are in any of the above jobs you do as you're told and serve the public. Not pick and choose what wars/tasks you want to attend. As for my view on the whole veil wearing issue I agree with Jack Straw. I also agree with a lot of people here that as a country we are losing are way and unable to celebrate our own history for fear of upsetting a minority. We shouldn't allow this. The minority in other countries don't go around telling the majority what they should and shouldn't celebrate.

matt k
It's sad but true that as a 27 year old heterosexual white male with no religious beliefs, a job and no disabilities living in England, that i have little or no rights and have to be careful about what i say as to not offend anybody who is none of the above. imi
the police are too busy having to reassign muslim coppers who don't want to stand guard around the Israeli embassy whilst the army are having to prosecute soldiers who refuse to go to Iraq. If you are in any of the above jobs you do as you're told and serve the public. Not pick and choose what wars/tasks you want to attend. That is why I wouldnt want to be in that situation. I feel sorry for those that are put in those situations and condone their position to protest. imi
I'll give you your point on the media, they do give time to these people but they make time for themselves. See the heckling they gave John Reid a month or so ago. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5362052.stm youve just proved my point smarty pants..... This guy and his companions dont represent the muslims in britain. Not sure why its so hard for a spindoctor like you to understand that - oh, I think i've just answered my question. But blaming the Police? not really, can't do a thing or it is 'anti muslim'. People like this are put in power by their followers and it is other muslims who must deal with this. It took years to get Hamza out of one of the biggest mosques in london. Even stood outside he had 300 + people turning up the hear him spout his bile. Police didnt stop when they shot the innocent brazillian down, or the two innocent brothers in east london..... They pick and choose when to be agressive...now dont they. Nothing much has come out of the 25 that were recently arrested in London, 1st they said at heathrow (hence the shutdown of the airport) - as it now transpires that the whole thing has simple fizzled away. As to 300 people woohoo....big deal. You are comical indeed What do you think should be done? m. havent they passed the anti terrorism law? dont you agree that this law is so damn vague, that you can be captured and imprisoned for a mere whim....dont you think thats wrong? with that in mind, dont you agree that atleast with this law they have the power to certainly stop trouble makers like hamza and his cronies?
