michael
Not for much longer... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7139724.stm How do you decide who is a "genuine collector" and aren't they just as capable of going off the rails in a moment of stress? Thorin
They should ban trees, you could easily kill someone by hitting them over the head with a tree branch.
jim_supra
Another Great idea from the Government, That'll stop the nutcases who want to dice people.
tbourner
I'd assume if you already own a set then it doesn't count, and is only true of selling them after the ban date.
RedM
It also doesn't apply for martial arts such as Iai.

Pete
Is it just Samurai swords then? What about a nice Hand Forged Warrior Sword? http://www.weaponmasters.com/shopping/Hand-Forged-Warrior-Sword-p-17167.html
Rob
a Lincoln man was jailed after using a Samurai-style sword to murder a passer-by whom he thought had attempted to rape his wife. So he was clearly a loon-card then, he'd have probably battered the victim to death with his fists if he didn't have the sword handy, or picked up a rock from his front garden. This is so typical of society these days that no-one sees the real problem and just gives knee-jerk reactions to any situation. I'm not giving up my samurai sword, it was made for me in ancient japan and I'll need it to win the prize.

Rob
38, but I found the sword when I were a lad. I'd strung some wire across a back alley, and this spanish/egyptian geezer rode past on his moped. Took his head off, then the toilet window fell out. Odd really. Rob
Legend? No, that was Tom Cruise. I'm starting to feel as old as an immortal when these jokes fly over some peoples heads because they're too young to have seen the film in question. Anyway, I think that's enough of a hijack. ivan
I wonder what this means for the WWII Japanese officers sword I have hung on my wall? Hope I don't have to turn it in.

KaoriFan
Another Government crackdown on something they don't really think through. Who is going to buy a Samurai Sword when if you want to use it for killing someone, you can just as easily buy a Stanley Knife or kitchen knife from the hardware store. Is this going to affect all edged weapons, as it will bugger up the re-enactment societies from the Civil War etc. After all, i don't think many would survive being hit with a Broadsword, even if it was blunt edged. No wonder they are useless this lot in power, banning Samurai Swords. Guess i can still import a nihontō bet they can't tell their wakizashi from their tantō, ōdachi and nodachi Anyone know how to prove you are a collector or enthusiast. I don't belong to Martial Arts clubs but have been interested in Japanese history from the Heian period through the Seige of Osaka up until the Meiji era. going to Japan to study Japanese history some day, maybe next year, or year after. ja ne Ian
RedM
bet they can't tell their wakizashi from their tantō, ōdachi and nodachi I bet you could get a kitchen knife bigger than some Wakizashi. OMG! We could all end up eating with sporks!!
Class One
I wonder what this means for the WWII Japanese officers sword I have hung on my wall? Hope I don't have to turn it in. I think you'll be ok Ken, it'll be classified as a war trophy as you managed to grab it after you were liberated from Kanchanaburi.
