supraguye
Has anyone used these? Is there any point to it?

Kranz
Just stick a rare earth magnet on the end of the sump plug at the next oil change. Buy one on ebay. It'll catch all the bits & give you a good idea of how the bores & cam etc are wearing. Expect a small amount of 'furr' to build up on it. supraguye
Thanks guys. Once there are no negatives to putting in one of these, i'll have it done at the next oil change

hodge
These are a must as an extra safety device for an engine. If you get any metal fragments in the oil they get held in the sump away for any moving parts. Essential if you ask me.
SamuraiFlash
Thanks for all the links guys, as Hodge said its a must have and I'll be investing in one for sure. I wonder if I can get one for the auto box?

AFAIK the Toyota A340's have magnetic bolts as standard, or at least the one on my 1JZ did, the Torsen diff did too.

ubersonic
Wait for somebody else to confirm that though as the bolts I had may have been messed with at some point since 1990
