Bill Prawn
Why does this only happen on holidays? Hot water cylinder is discharging water from the overflow. Don't know why, but if we turn off the water heater it stops. Any help will be greatly received It's a Vaillant Vantage if that helps

Timwildman
what type of sytem do you have a combi or conventional? The hot water over flow out side maybe just a sign that the tempreature is not regulating quite as it should. It's the old, as the water gets hotter it exspands type of thing, so it's i dont think any harm will come of it. Or it might also be a sign, (if you have a conventional system with a small exspansion tank in the loft) that the ball cock valve is not quite as good as it used to be and migh neeed repacing. Bill Prawn
It's a combi unvented cylinder. The discharge is from the temperature and pressure release valve. Still trying to sort it but from all other info it seems like a service call from the manufacturers. Got me by the short and curlies. damouk
this sounds a bit like a problem i had, when the heating came on the pressure suddenly shot up and vented itself all over my decking, when it was cold again there was zero pressure and it was the expantion cylinder, re-pressurised it with my bike pump and hey presto working again!!! neighbour paid over £300 to have his "replaced" and system flushed
dangerous brain
It could be the pressure in the expansion tank is low or it could be the diaphragm in the expansion vessel is breached. Putting some more air in it with a footpump should tell you if that is your problem. I take it that its snotty horrible coloured water coming out? Is your heating system losing pressure? Fresh hot water. Heating is all ok
dangerous brain
Could be the over pressurise valve itself. Spring in it or something weakened. Is there a book that came with the boiler or can you find some info on a website. My boiler came with an installation and engineers handbook thingumy which has a fault finding section in it. http://www.gasconnect.co.uk/central/unvented_hot_water.html Give them a ring they might be able to help you out with this problem
