pistonbroke
Hello chaps and chapesses, I'm after buying a new car at some point in the near future. I sold my supe about 6 months ago due to a new addition to my family and needed the money. I went out and bought a motorbike to tide me over until such time as I could afford another car. Within the next few months I'll need to get back onto 4 wheels for when the missus goes back to work. This'll mean another income coming in, which spares up some cash for me to blow on a new motor. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to sustain the running costs of a supra again, and I don't really won't to get one of a lower standard than I originally had because I'll probably end up being dissapointed with it. The other reason for not being able to get a supe is because, with the bike in the garage, there is no way a supe will fit in there with it . So, I'm after something like an s2000. I want to stay in the jap scene as I've been part of it for the last 3 cars I've owned. I still talk to the freinds I've made across all the clubs I've been a part of and so want to stay in the same circle of enthusiasts. So, my budget is around the £8000 mark. Suggest away......... turbonut
MR2 turbo's are quite nippy if your after a 2 seater, or maybe a celica GT4 ST205? Or an FTO, nice little motor though not hugely powerful Happy hunting anyway, hope you find the right motor Linda x
pistonbroke
I've had an Mr2 turbo. Nice car, but its hard to find a nice one now. Also had an FTO, probably one of the best cars to drive I've owned. The tip gearbox is brilliant fun in the lanes, its like have a sequential gearbox from a rally car. But like you say, its a bit slow.
ellis
Civic Type R (not the new one!) - bags of fun for your buck! Or spend £6K on a Supe and use the other £2K to have some real fun running it for a short time!!
pistonbroke
Yup, good suggestion with the civic.
SupraGirlie
If you can find an s2000 for 8k go for it, it would be around a 2000 reg with higher than average milage but there are a few for that money, that's what my next car will be next year
supra_surj
Hey dan. Glad your getting another motor. The civic is fun to drive and very practical. Mates got 1 and i love thrashing it.
DaveSupTT
My previous car was an MR2 Turbo, it was really nice to drive. It had been slightly tuned as well, and it was really really quick. Running cost, petrol wise, I think it cost me about £40 to fill it and I got about 230miles, and that was driving it half and half (sunday driving and "fun driving"!) Also you can pick them up for quite cheap, but like someone said earlier, its finding a good one. But id def reccomend one. My mate has had one as well, then went to a GT4 st 205 due to having a child. He said he loves it. Apparently it handles amazingly, much better than the MR2, but isnt as quick. I havent been in it yet so I cant comment.
pistonbroke
Yo Surj, hows things matey? It'd be good to get back into the game again, feels like an age since I drove a decent car, (been rocking about in the wife's diesel A class for far too long). What do people think of the lew shape celica? the 190 edition one obviously with all the trimmings. There's a TRD one knocking around this way with a nice bodykit on it? pistonbroke
Which do people think is better, the dc2 integra, or the Civic type R ? What is the interior like on the integra?, I know the Civic has really nice seats and a stupid dash gear lever, but in all its pretty nice. Big Red One
the integra interior is the same has the civic my mate has a integra dc2 type r very nice i personally like them more than a civic there more rare but my boys celica GT4 WRC leaves it standing

Are the running costs really high for a supra compared to an S2000 then? I have a nice skyliner that runs on LPG if your interested.
Big Red One
the intgera dc5 are very nice thats the one i would have abit out of your price range tho they start from about £10000 upwards
pistonbroke
Running costs for a s2000 will be much cheaper. The supe cost me a packet in petrol. The vice of having 3 litres and two turbos. The S2000's 2ltr is frugal in comparison. Insurance will also be cheaper. @ Big Red One, I hear what you're saying about the Gt4. they are nice cars, I've just never been taken by the shape of them. I'd have the mr2 tubby over the gt4. I'd love a DC5, but like you say, they are holding their money well.
ozz
I'm in a similar position having sold me sup, budget of around 5-13k depending on car. I've considered Supra NA (first choice) Nissan 350z (hence upper budget and the only car I would spend that on), Lotus Elise (too small) and did look at an EVO. I saw a nice s2000 today that made me think I should add to potential list - as you mentioned 8k. All the ones I've seen (on PH) are £12k+ though and I wouldn't want to pay that. Big Red One
gt4 all day over the mr2 my cousin has mr2, the handle and the speed is rubbish, the gt4 shows it up big time. i think the gt4 is alot better designed and well made compared to the mr2
