hadyn
Hi all, Funny thing happened tonight - I floored my auto j spec tt (stock apart from catback zorst), which at the time was quite low on fuel (light on) and I suddenly got a big loss of power and then power returned when I took my foot off the pedal. Definately felt like fuel cut, but no warning lights and obviously on standard boost. What caused this?? Low fuel???
Ric
probably a misfire, when did you last change the plugs? Fuelcut gives the center warning light for a few seconds
JustGav
Pump could have run dry, as the fuel all moved back during acceleration, but the baffles should prevent it, HOW low were you? E for enough or WAY past it?
hadyn
Way past E
JustGav
Way past E Way past E is an interesting place, you are just never sure how much is left... I managed to cover 10 miles just as it ran past the E and got to a garage. (The first one I went to was closed..)
hadyn
Sounds like a fail safe (like fuel cut) to stop you underfuelling if not enough fuel from the pump if on full boost????
hadyn
any other ideas?
Homer
Gavs idea makes sense, though I thought the fuel cut only worked on MAP. Do you have a boost gauge and if so what boost were you seeing at the time it happened?
hadyn
crap autogauge boost gauge thats all over the place mate. It was producing circa 0.8 bar
supra_surj
I had the same thing. Had a problem recently with the 2nd turbo doing this so decided to run it in ttc mode to rule out a few things.however i got exactly what you described tonight.fuel also was very low. Mmm

brettjones
this happens to me when i have less than 1/4 of a tank fill it up and all is well again
Homer
Interesting one. Have you replaced the fuel pump (esp sock filter) or the fuel filter on the car? Could well be fuel supply related so lets start at the basics.
hadyn
Ive got a 130k mile fuel pump which Im due to ditch for an uprated walbro next week. Fuel filter was changed in feb time this year, so doubt its that. Funny though, if my car was doing this with a 1/4 tank left, I'd be worried the fuel filter or fuel lines were blocked. I think my case might be a bit of fuel starvation...
colsoop
I had this when i was passed empty looking for a petrol station. i have never since i owned it gone as low as that so i put it down to poor fuel at bottom being sucked through as it missfired really badly 2 or 3 times. After that i changed the fuel filter and have never let it get that low again.
Mike B
under what conditions does a stock ecu cause the fuel cut? lean afr under boost, or over a pre-determined boost level?
Ric
under what conditions does a stock ecu cause the fuel cut? lean afr under boost, or over a pre-determined boost level? 1bar positive pressure for a duration of 3 seconds Fuel cut Warning triangle for about 5 seconds after power restored but no stored code (afaik)
Mike B
thought so (if this is true)... so fuel starvation would not cause fuel cut.. it may cause a drop in power and potential lean out explosion, but not an immediate cut...
hadyn
Are we talking that this maybe symptons of detonation??
