Coilovers

Doug

Recommended Posts

Ok Guys, I've looked through the archives and cannot find anything definitive so I'll just ask straight out :)

1) Which coilovers would you recommend and why?

2) Just how much harsher is the ride with coilovers fitted

3) Does anybody know anything about the H & R coilovers for the MkIV Supra?

4) How much lower than stock would the ride height be at the highest setting?

Cheers

Doug,

I'd get the Tein HA coilovers with the Tein EDFC system so you can control the dampers from inside the car, way cool!

I have a text file with the spring rates for various lowering springs and coilovers which I can email you if you want.

Personally I'd fit some lowered springs instead. Designed for the job.

Why do you want coilovers? Is it to revert back to stock easily or it's just quicker to do D.I.Y or something?

I personally don't like them as they make your poor old stock springs work harder in situations they weren't designed to be placed in. I cannot say technically if this is really good or bad, just my opinion.

I'm not slating it, just wonder if your money would be better spent on a set of springs instead.

How much are these coil over kits?

Eibachs come it at about £180 I think.

(Although being a gadget man the adjustable system appeals)

I thought these were the things that compressed one or two twists in the existing coil spring reducing ride height?

Have I got that wrong and you mean something else?

Anyway £950+ for springs? Ouch!!!

I purchased four Eibach lowering springs for £180 and a set of four KYB-AGX adjustable shocks for £460 inclusive of VAT

Nah, coilovers are shock absorber and spring combined into one integral unit. They seem to be the ultimate for track day cars, but tend to be a bit more expensive than buyin shocks and springs seperately. In theory it should be better as you know for sure the components match properly, and usually have more adjustability.
